It goes without saying, that there would be those who dislike Dewey's long tenure as POTUS. That there would be those who would want his removal. For instance, there are any members of Congress looking for any context in his dealings that would allow them to call for his impeachment. Of course, impeachment isn't the only way a President of the United States would be removed from office. There are also many who would want to assassinate him!
Of course, Assassination is impossible, due to the high level of security that the Secret Service provides about Dewey's person. It is certainly impossible to plant bombs on any motorcades that the President would be riding in (or on any road along which such motorcades would be driving). While there would be those attempting Dewey's assassination, they wouldn't succeed, no matter if they were under hire by any member of Congress wishing for Dewey's impeachment or not.
Speaker of the House, Joseph P. Kennedy, resigns in mid-April, after many major newspapers publish damning allegations of corruption about him. First the Washington Post. But then the Boston Globe. Then the New York Times. He denies the allegations that the Post publishes, and those by the Globe. Then when the Times publishes their allegations, he accuses his political enemies (of which there are many) of making spurious accusations.
However, as more papers (and radio stations and television networks) continue to publish stories that corroborate the earlier stories, calls for his resignation from the Speakership increase. Eventually he has no choice and resigns.
