The TARDIS came to a stop. “That’s strange,” the Doctor commented.

 

“What’s strange?” his companion, Martha Jones, asked.

 

“We’ve stopped in Tokyo. But it’s somewhere I’ve stopped before. The TARDIS is reading similar spatial distortions to the other times.”

 

“So, you think there could be something to it?” Martha asked.

 

“Yes.”

 

 

The Doctor and Martha stepped out of the TARDIS, into a café next to a crossroads. The Doctor scanned the area with the sonic screwdriver. “Oh!”

 

“Oh?”

 

The Doctor pointed in the direction behind the café. “Something’s Spacey-Wasey.”

 

“Spacey-Wasey?” Martha asked.

 

“To the three dimensions of space what Timey Wimey is to the fourth dimension of Time,” the Doctor answered.

 

“So, a part of Tokyo is folded in on itself?”

 

“Looks like it. But it may be only part of it. It’s like a tesseract. There may be connections to pocket universes.”

 

“Right,” Martha said as she took it in.

 

 

The Doctor thought about what he might have found as he and Martha sipped their cappuccino’s. Martha was petting a large cream coloured cat. ‘There could be anything in the contorted space,’ he thought. Whether the Japanese Government was hiding something there, or there was something else there, he wanted to find out. He saw a teenage girl with short hair enter the café and look at the cat Martha was petting. ‘Wait!’ the thought. There was something about that girl. ‘Could she know about the Spacey-Wasey region?’

 

 

Yoshioka Haru looked at the two foreigners who were with Muta at their usual table. There was something unusual about them, particularly the man. She doubted she would have noticed if she hadn’t been involved with the Cat Bureau. ‘The Baron would like to know at least,’ she thought as she decided to introduce herself to them. But first she went to order a coffee.

 

 

Martha saw the girl approach. “Hi, I’m Haru.”

 

“Martha, and this is the Doctor.”

 

“I thought we could talk,” Haru said as she began petting the cat.

 

“He really likes you,” Martha observed.

Being involved with the Bureau never failed to bring surprises to Yoshioka Haru. Just when she thought that there couldn’t be something new, something new showws up at the Bureau’s doorstep.

 

Having just found yet another route to the Sanctuary from the Crossroads, Haru bounded up the Cat Bureau door. “Good Morning, Baron!”

 

Baron Humbert von Girkkengen emerged from the door. “Good Morning, Haru! You’re just in time.”

 

“Another case so soon?”

 

“Yes. It has to do with Borrowers.”

 

“Borrowers?”

 

“Come in and have some tea. I’ll explain.”

 

 

The tea was exquisite as ever, but Haru found the concept of small humanoids subsisting off things humans wouldn’t miss difficult to take. “It is strange, that we would miss them,” she said after the Baron had explained.

 

“A letter from a Borrower has found it’s way to the Bureau,” Baron said as he handed the letter in question, along with a magnifying glass to Haru.

 

Haru read the letter.

Glen Oaks Lane was usually quiet at night. It certainly was unusual that a strange grating sound could be heard somewhere in the street. In the back yard of a large red brick house, a blue box slowly appeared. The Doctor’s TARDIS had landed.

 

“There,” the Doctor said as the rear of the Morgendorffer house came up on the scanner. “We’re back in Lawndale, an hour after we left.”

 

“Finally,” Quinn Morgendorffer said. The last few adventures had come rather close. “Thanks, Doctor!”

 

“I’ll be back in a week.”

 

“I know. Have a good time,” Quinn said as she stepped outside and closed the doors.

 

“Now. Back to the Impossible Girl,” the Doctor murmured, wondering yet again why he kept running into Clara. He set the TARDIS in motion. However, the Cloister Bell rang and the old girl refused to move.

 

 

Quinn turned around, noticing that the Doctor hadn’t left yet. ‘What is he up to?’ She decided to go back. She saw that Daria’s light was still on. She knew that Daria knew about the Doctor, but she didn’t want her involved in with whatever might be happening.

 

 

The Doctor had looked at the scanner again when he heard Quinn re-enter the ship. “Yes, something’s come up.”

 

“What is the thing?” Quinn asked as she came up to the console.

 

“A strange energy reading coming from somewhere downtown. It could even be at the school.”

 

“Great!” Quinn groused.

 

“I could have a look tonight while you have sleep.”

 

“I’d probably stay awake with worry, and leaving the TARDIS here isn’t a good idea.”

 

“You know that the perception filter will stop your parents noticing it.”

 

“And you know Daria would know you’re here.”

 

“That’s not too bad.”

 

 

The Doctor had grabbed a map of Lawndale from somewhere, as well as his sonic screwdriver. “Are you sure you want to come along?” he asked Quinn.

 

“It’s Lawndale, of course I’m coming.”

 

“I knew you were going to say that,” the Doctor said as he locked the TARDIS. “Come along Morgendorffer.”

 

“That doesn’t work as well as you think it does,” Quinn groused.

 

 

Daria looked out and saw the Doctor and Quinn walk away from the TARDIS to the rear laneway. She sighed. “What are they up to?” she wondered if she should follow. It was a school night, but that hadn’t stopped her before.

 The Cat Returns – The Christmas Case

The snow was falling lightly as Yoshioka Haru arrived at the Crossroads Café. She looked around, but she didn’t see Muta anywhere. ‘Where is that cat?’ she asked herself. ‘Probably busy at the Bureau.’ She decided to get a coffee and wait.

 

Haru didn’t have to wait long. “Muta!” she called out. It didn’t matter that some of the other patrons turned to look at her.

 

The large cat came up to her. “Hi to you to,” he said.

 

“How are Toto and the Baron?” she asked, as she usually did.

 

“They’re fine,” Muta answered. “But they miss you.”

 

“It has been busy at school. But with Christmas coming, I will be able to visit the Bureau.”

 

“You can come this evening?”

 

“Yes,” Haru answered. She had considered visiting the Bureau considering that it was just over a week before Christmas. She finished the coffee. “Let’s go then.”

 

“I knew you were going to say that,” Muta said with a groan.

 

 

Five minutes later, Haru emerged from a side alley into the European style square the Bureau called home. ‘I’ll have to remember that way,’ she thought as she saw Muta emerge from a different side alley. She had just found another new route into the square. With the Square lying in a kind of side space, the routes to and from it didn’t exactly adhere to Euclidian geometry. ‘Of course I don’t always end up here,’ she thought. Most often a new route lead back to the Crossroads, but sometimes to different places.

One time Toto had to rescue her. Haru shook her head as she approached the Bureau.

 

Star Trek: Discovery 3.09 Terra Firma Part 1 review

 Terra Firma Part 1

The ninth episode of the third season and the first half of a two-parter. Georgiou's condition is getting worse, and the Sphere Dara recommends going to a mysterious planet near the Gamma Quadrant. It is discovered that the ship in that nebula is a Kelpian ship. Upon reaching the planet and meeting a mysterious 'Carl,' Georgiou finds herself back in the Mirror Universe. More on what she experiences later. The scene with the hologram of the Time Warrior from the Kelvin Universe was good.

Not sure what to make of the 'molecules want to go back to universe and time of origin' thing. But then the concept isn't new. It's similar to the Entropic Cascade Failure in Stargate SG1. Even there the more similar (and closer) the realities, the less likely it is to occur. But time travel wasn't mentioned. The way Saru reacted to the message from the Kelpian ship in that nebula was a nice touch. That is certainly leading somewhere. Admiral Vance's words to Saru about learning from past mistakes were also a nice touch.

'Carl' is certainly reminiscent of Q, but he may not be a Q. (Maybe not a portal or be related to the Guardian of Forever either). The Mirror Universe twist was a surprise. Whatever that door is, it probably didn't lead to the real Mirror Universe. It's almost certainly a test which Georgiou must undergo. But that certainly what the real ISS Discovery looked like. Captain Killy certainly impressed.

I also liked the way Mirror Burnham contrasted with her Prime self. Of course the storyline on the ISS Discovery raises questions. Is it a test being generated by Carl? Or is there more going on? It's obvious that there will be at least some answers in the next episode. Like, is there now an alternate timeline with the death of the Mirror Stamets? That is maybe the biggest indication that it may be a Carl test. And there may be something in the character interactions that may be important. Even so, a good start to a two-parter. 8.4/10.

Quinn's Code - Morgendorffers vs. Amazon - Part 6

 As she stepped out of the school building, Romonica took out her cell phone. “Claude, it's me, Romonica. The classes have been canceled.

“The Principal didn't see it our way?” Claude asked.

“No, and it was a lawyer parent's fault! I will see the school, and her, in court!”

“Are you sure?” Claude asked.

“Absolutely!” Romonica said.

“As you say,” Claude said.

Romonica hung up and clicked the phone shut. She turned back to the school. 'You haven't heard the last of this!'

Quinn met with Kristen and Cindy after lunch.

“What happened?” Cindy asked.

“I'll tell you after school,” Quinn said.

“You can tell us,” Kristen said.

“I know, but people may overhear,” Quinn said.

“Oh,” Kristen said.

Daria, Jane and Jennifer entered the Hall to find many confused students there. “Ah, there you are, Ms. Morgendorffer and Ms. Burns,” Ms. Li said.

“Yes, we were dragging our heels.”

Jennifer laughed silently at Daria's sarcasm.

“As I expected,” The Principal said.

Daria looked around and noticed that Romonica and Claude were absent. “Where are the teachers of these reputed classes?” she asked.

“Take a seat! I'll make the announcement to everyone,” the principal said.

“Ok.”

“Looks like something unexpected has happened,” Jane said as they proceeded to the seats.

“Possibly,” Daria said.

'Of course,' Jennifer thought.

There wsa much murmuring as Ms. Li took her place at the podium. “I see that everyone who signed up for the Modelling Classes is here. Unfortunately, due to unforseen events, the classes have been canceled!”

“What?” Sandi asked.

“As I said. They have been canceled. Someone, who will remain nameless, sabotaged the school's chances, and they will no longer be held.”

“That's terrible,” Sandi siad.

“Sooo Wrong!” Tiffany Blum-Deckler said.

“For once I agree with you, Ms. Griffin, Ms. Blum-Deckler. There may be similar opportunities in the future,” Ms. Li said.

“I hope so,” Sandi said.

“Me too,” Stacy Rowe said.

“This is good news, I don't have to do modelling anymore,” Daria said.

“But I wonder how the classes were canceled,” Jane said.

“Her choice of words is intreaguing,” Jennifer murmured.

“I guess so,” Daria said. 'It certainly raises questions,' she thought.

“Now, everyone, you can go to your normal classes,” Ms. Li said.

“Yay!” Jane said sardonically.

Daria, Jane and Jennifer exited the hall to see Jane's brother Trent outside. “Trent? Do Mom and Dad know that you're outside the house voluntarily?” Jane asked in surprise.

“Huh?” Trent asked, confused.

“What are you doing here?” Jane asked.

“I thought I would see the Modelling Classes for myself.”

“Oh, but they've been canceled,” Jennifer said as she noticed Daria blushing.

“Oh,” Trent said in surprise.

“I'm sure we will find out something,” Jane said as they began to walk away.

“Maybe,” Trent said as he thought.

“I bet that someone had something to do with this,” Sandi groused as she headed back towards class.

“The geek isn't responsible for everything, Sandi,” Tori said.

“I'm not blaming her! Someone else is responsible!” Sandi said.

''Good,' Tori thought.

Elias Hadley arrived at the Church. It was later than he wanted to arrive, because he had to drop his sister off at work, but it was still before the Service start time. Even so, there was a line up out the door. Even with the COVID-related restrictions easing, people still needed to check in when arriving at Church. Even so, he could hear the worship leaders practicing Silent Night, given that it was less than two weeks until Christmas. He prayed about the service as he waited to get in.

Quinn's Code - Morgendorffers vs. Amazon - Part 5

 As Helen reached her car, she took out her cell phone. “Marianne, find out all you can about the New York Amazon Modelling Agency.”

“Yes, Helen.”

Quinn hung up. “My Mom is on the way here. May I go back to History until she gets here?” she asked.

“Negative! She will be here in less than fifteen minutes,” Ms. Li said.

Quinn grumbled and looked at her watch. The period was just about half over. 'Good thing Cindy shares her notes with those who ask.'

Helen arrived at the school ten minutes after leaving work. After she had locked the car her cellphone rang. “Yes?”

“I have researched the Amazon Modelling Agency as you asked, Helen,” Marianne said.

“Fill me in,” Helen said, as she went towards the school buildings.

“Now, what is all this about?” Helen asked as she entered the principal's office.

“I have made it mandatory that your daughter attend the Modelling classes,” Ms. Li said.

“Is this true?” Helen asked

“It is as I said, Mom,” Quinn said.

“Ms. Li, Quinn has no interest in attending the Modelling classes. According to the county bylaws you cannot force her to join them,” Helen said. She then noticed Romonica. “Ms. DeGregory, I presume,” she said with a glare.

“Yes, I believe that your younger daughter has potential. That is why I pressured the principal into making her attendance mandatory,” Romonica said.

“Pressured, how?”

Romonica remained silent.

Helen stared back.

“I said I would withdraw the classes from this school if Quinn is not in them!”

“You would follow up on this threat?” Helen asked, her voice low.

“I wouldn't make it if I wasn't prepared to follow up on it!” Romonica said.

Whilst this exchange was going on, Ms. Li looked on it with trepidation. 'Things are getting out of control!'

Helen smirked. “In that case, Ms. Li, if you continue to harass my daugther to join, I will bring a suit against this school.”

“You don't mean that!” Ms. Li said.

Helen's smile was all the answer she needed. If she had any doubts, they disapppeared.

“Fine!” Ms. Li said. She turned to Quinn. “Ms. Morgendorffer, you are no longer required to join the Modelling Classes.”

“Good,” Quinn said with a sigh of relief.

“What!” Romonica exclaimed.

“I do not want a lawsuit brought against the school!”

Romonica smiled deviously. “Mrs. Morgendorffer may not, but I will!”

The principal glared at the modelling agent. “If that is your wish. Nethertheless your suit would not bring the bad press that a parent led suit would. Still I beg you to reconsider, for there are other students with similar potential, including the aforementioned sister of the particular student you were after.”

Romonica looked to be in thought. She shook her head and said “No. Quinn will be in the classes or they are off and there will be a suit!”

“A suit you would loose,” Helen said.

“What?” Romonica asked.

“Depending on the contract, you may not have a leg to stand on?”

“And I suppose you have experience in this area?” Romonica asked.

“Close to twenty years,” Helen said, her voice low.

“The school has no legs to stand on!” Romonica said.

“I glanced through the contract before I signed it, Ms. DeGregory. I think Lawndale High has a chance against you. Now, if you are not going to reconsider, get out of my office!”

“You haven't heard the last of this!” Romonica said.

“Good day!” the Principal said.

Romonica turned on her heel and stalked out of the office.

After about fifteen seconds Helen asked. “Why did you change your mind?”

“I am aware of the reputation of the Senior Partner of your firm, Mrs. Morgendorffer. I don't want that firm litigating against the school!”

“I see,” Helen said. She stepped closer. “Understand this, if you do pull a stunt like this again I will enter into litigation. Do I make myself clear?”

“Crystal clear, Mrs. Morgendorffer,” the principal said. She turned to Quinn. “Are you absolutely sure you don't want to do those classes, Ms. Morgendorffer?”

“Of course!” Quinn said.

“Stop badgering my daughter, Ms. Li.”

“I'm going back to class! See you tonight, Mom.”

“See you then, bye.”

“Wait!” the principal exclaimed.

“You know my answer,” Quinn said as she left the office.

“If there is nothing else, I need to get back to work. Good day,” Helen said. She also left.

“This is just great!” the principal said to the otherwise empty room.

It was a cool autumn evening when Estella Bolger arrived at Brandy Hall. As she walked up to one of the side doors, she listened to the Brandywine as it flowed past one of Buckleberry’s many docks. There were many sounds a skilled hobbit could pick out. Mostly wind in the trees and many birds and insects singing. She listened for a few seconds more then knocked on the door.

 

It was opened by one of the younger Brandybucks. “Hi, Estella,” he said. “Merry is waiting in the North Hall.”

 

“Thanks,” Estella said.

 

 

Estella always found getting through Brandy Hall difficult, what with the large number of Brandybucks going to and fro through the hallways, which branched this way in that in unpredictable ways. It was like the Brandybucks didn’t plan out the expansion of the Smial. However, she remembered the way to the North Hall and entered less than 5 minutes after she was let in.

 

“Hi, Estella,” Merry said.

After Joseph is told what is going on with Mary he is filled with hope. The Shepherds boldly went and told others about the angels and the child.

If there was one thing Jemma Simmons liked, it was cherries. So it was disappointing to find that where she had expected to see her stash of cherries, there were none left. Someone else on the Bus must have eaten them! One person immediately came to mind. “Leopold James Fitz!”

 

Fitz came immediately. “Jemma! I didn’t touch your cherries!”

 

She knew he wasn’t lying. “Then who did?”

Lorraine Baines was uncertain. Calvin Kline was cute, but strange. She waited outside for him to pick her up to go to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance. It was foolish, but then wasn’t all love foolish? To meet someone and then spend each other’s lives with them. That was one reason why she disliked Biff Tannen so! His advances were unwelcome and he drank to excess. She had heard stories. She  shook her head, clearing her mind of those thoughts. She then heard a car coming. She was sure it was Calvin!

 

 

Marty McFly arrived at his grandparent’s house. He hoped see it again in 1985. But something told him that success wasn’t guaranteed, that despite all the effort he had put into putting things right, he would fail. He shook his head, trying to dispel the memories of the nightmares he had had over the last week. ‘If Doc doesn’t read that letter. If George doesn’t dance with Lorraine…’

 

Lorraine opened the door, distracting him from his line of thought.

“Niberk?” Agent Pete Laittmer asked.

 

“Ny Berk,” Artie clarified.

 

“Where is this island, again?” Pete asked.

 

“Between Ireland and Iceland,” Myka answered.

 

“Which is why you’re going via Reykjavik.”

 

“Got it.”

“A Dalek program is decompressing the bridge,” Sigrun explained.

 

“Bring her in, but we have Dalek stuff in the scanner as well”, the Doctor responded. “They must have infected the plan file.”

 

“I could have sworn that it was a Thal ship, not one that belonged to the Daleks,” Kellira said.

 

“So, you are behind this invasion of Earth?” the Doctor asked.

 

“Of course I am, with the blessing of the Matriarchy,” Kellira answered, as if that was obvious.

 

“Of course, but you did not take into account that the Thals were the Daleks' oldest enemy, and thus were not above copying their designs so that a scenario like the one that is occurring now, will happen,” the Doctor said. She was exasperated that any Drahvin would fall for one of the oldest tricks in the metaphorical Dalek book. It most certainly had made her attempt to defeat their invasion of the Azores much harder. 'How many others would take the risk?' she wondered.

 

 

In the Bridge, air was screaming out of the TARDIS doors, which Sigrun had left open. The air pressure was done to 1/3 atmospheres. However, having grown up in an alpine environment, Jia'hale was able to cope while she dragged the guards into the Console Room.

 

 

Inside the TARDIS, the Doctor was worried. The air pressure in the Console Room was down to 2/3 atmospheres. The air was screaming out of the internal doors from the corridors, as well as the ventilation ducts. She could see Jia bringing the guards into the console room, just beyond the door and dashing out again. 'I'm sure something like this hasn't happened before,' she thought. Then again, maybe it had.

 

 

Inside the scanner circuitry the Dalek and Time Lord software continued to battle each other.

 

 

The Doctor came to a decision. “Right, Sab, you can keep watch on the scanner. You can attempt to reach Elisa and I on the internal comm.,” the Doctor said.

 

 

'Since when does the TARDIS have an internal comm?' Felicia thought.

“Finally!” the Princess said when she saw the antigrav sled with her luggage enter the Mess Hall.

“That’s OK, I was going to give you a week to think about what to do.”

“Which movie?”

 

 

Twenty minutes later, Cindy left the house, having decided to do some shopping before going to the cinema with Kristen later. She headed towards the Lawndale Mall.

“I’m sure it’s been explained to you that the Mess Hall is for the use of the entire crew?” the captain explained.

 

“There are alternatives I take it?” Elseran asked.

 

“Yes,” the Captain answered. There were several lounges scattered through the ship, and she supposed one of the Holodecks could be used as a makeshift mess hall at a pinch. ‘Better not tell her about them, or she might want exclusive use!’

 

“Then the crew can use them for the time being.”

 

“Why are the guest quarters pathetic, as you put it?”

 

“They are rather small! Whereas the Mess Hall is much larger, and has a better view of the stars,” the princess answered.

 

“This is a small ship, not much can be done,” the Captain said.
