Excerpt from: Journey to the End

“Welcome traveler. If you go to the front desk, we’ll get you settled for the night.”

“Thanks.”

“Welcome, Elenia. The City has sent the relevant information ahead by radio as is usual,” the assistant said as he gave her a piece of paper. “Just sign here.”

“There’s obviously more people here than just the City,” Elenia commented as she signed.

“I’m sure you know that not everyone returns from their Journey.”

“It’s not possible to not know that.”

“You will see when you come down to the Common Room that there is a lot to the world that the City doesn’t teach you. That most of Humanity is outside of it.”

Excerpt from: The Engineer and the Time Lady

She approached the building, to see Betty Brant coming the other way.

Good Morning!” Betty said.

Morning,” Nina said.

Just so you know, Jameson is going to be insufferable.”

I know.”

Excerpt from: The Heroic Seniors

“Why didn’t you beat him up?” Jim asked.

“I'm not gonna beat up a guy just because he's using too much power,” Kim responded.

“Ah, you could've kicked him!” Tim added.

“I left him some pamphlets,” Kim said.

“Well, all you kids could stand to turn off a few lights,” her father said.

Her mother then came with dinner.

Kim excused herself from the dinner and went to call Ron.

Hey, hey, you've reached the home of Ron Stoppable and fierce new haircut! Leave a message.”

“How can Ron not be home? Ok, better page him.”

Kim entered the dining room disappointed.

“You and Ronald all squared away?” her father asked.

“Not. I can't even reach him. Dad, did you ever try to change a friend, to make them better?”

“Yes…”

Excerpt from: Mysteries of Aurora

By the time she reached Janus Hadrian Hall, the brighter stars that could outshine Urbs Aeterna’s light pollution had started coming out. She looked up, appreciative, as the AAUA campus had less extraneous light than her home suburb. ‘Prettier,’ she thought.

She entered the room to find Janara playing a different game than in the morning. “Have you been playing all day?” she asked.

“I have been elsewhere,” Janara answered.

“Like lunch?”

“Not just lunch.”

“That’s good,” Olivia said.

“How did today go for you?”

“It’s still just scratching the surface, but I did catch up with someone at the Pool.”

After dinner, Freya decided that she would watch that movie in the Main Common Room. ‘At least I’ll see what the fuss is about.’

Dana saw Freya come in. “Cool, Freya, they’re about to put it on.”

“Cool!”

“You had a good day?”

“Yes. I got plenty of sketching done, and talked to a few people,” Freya answered.

“Looks like you had fun.”

“Yes. I feel like I’m ready for what is ahead, including what I might find out about those Renaissance artists.”

After a couple of classes, Olivia Marcus was back in the Nordic Section of the Main Library. She had taken a break over Sunday, talking with Olivia as she gamed and listening to various audiobooks. She was into a book on the situation in Urbs Aeterna in the decades leading up to the Capture when she heard something in the distance.

“What was that?” She looked around and saw a couple of people arguing near one of the doorways between the Nordic Section and the Ancient Section.

“Something’s happening,” she murmured.

Excerpt from: Spider Quinn

Daria waited while eating as Brittany read through the script.

“This is great! It doesn’t impact the play much at all,” Brittany said.

“Exactly. I wanted the experience of this weeks performances to be as close as possible to last weeks.”

“I will do my best.”

“I know you will.”

Jane arrived at the Historia after parking the Plymouth down the street. She put the thoughts about the news of a robotic pterodactyl out of her mind as she entered the café. She saw Daria and Brittany eating at a table. “Yo!” she said as she came up to them.

“Hi, Jane!” Brittany said.

“I see that you’re still recovering, from whatever it was SpiderGirl rescued you from,” Jane said as she said.

“I was running and I slipped,” Brittany said matter-of-factly.

“In any case, the play goes ahead, just with Ariel not moving as much,” Daria explained.

“Very true,” Jane said.

“I will be back to my normal self soon,” Brittany said with determination.

At the Griffin’s, Sandi had finished writing down her thoughts about the robot pterodactyl when her mother called her down to dinner. “Coming.”

When she entered the dining room, her brothers were talking about what happened at the Mall. ‘I guess I’m going to keep hearing about it,’ she thought.

“If I had a robot pterodactyl, I wouldn’t use it in a crowded mall,” Chris said.

“I would have a robot T-rex,” Sam interjected.

“But a T-rex doesn’t fly,” Chris said.

Sandi rolled her eyes as she sat down next to her mother.

“Did you find anything?” her mother asked.

“No. I wasn’t anywhere near there.”

“Just Ninja Talon and Dafoanairi, wasn’t it?” her mother asked, with emphasis on the latter name.

“Yes,” Sandi answered. ‘Has Mother figured out that Daria’s Dafoanairi?’ she wondered. But dinner time wasn’t the time to clarify.

“It is something that we need to keep an eye on,” her mother added.

Mysteries of Aurora - Saturday, September 7, Afternoon

Freya entered the dining hall for lunch. She found two she hadn’t talked to yet that day near one of the windows that looked out onto the courtyard next to the Hall. “Hi! How has today been?”

‘Hi, Freya,” one said with a smile.

“A great autumn day, Leia?” Freya said.

“Oh, it definitely is!” Leia said. “It is argued that Urbs Aeterna has the best climate in Aurora.”

“I haven’t really thought about that,” Freya said a she sat down.

“Oh, Leia…”the other said.

“What do you think, Anise?” Freya asked.

“I’d say it would be somewhere in the South, where it doesn’t snow much,” Anise answered.

“Like, Tanaria?” Leia asked.

“Yes,” Anise said.

“I haven’t been to the South,” Freya mused. “We’ve mostly been to places in the northeast, Munnsland once, the United Kingdom or Australia.”

“The northeast?” Anise asked, rhetorically. “It’s mostly Auroric there, so we decided not to go when it did come up.”

“Well, I’m bilingual,” Freya said with a smile.

“That’s cool,” Leia said.

“That’s something I’m interested in,” Anise said. “The shifting linguistic landscape of Aurora. How the Auroric speaking areas have expanded over time, especially in the Modern Era.”

“It’s probably because it is taught in some of the other provinces as a second language,” Freya mused.

“Like, it’s the ongoing legacy of the Nordic Era,” Leia added.

“History…” Freya murmured.

“Aren’t you into art?” Anise asked.

“It’s a big part of what I’m interested in, but not everything,” Freya said. “For instance…” she then told them about the mystery of the missing Renaissance artworks.

“That’s still about art,” Anise said.

“I guess so,” Freya responded with a giggle.

“It’s a bit strange,” Leia considered.

“That is one reason why I’m going to investigate,” Freya said.

Olivia stretched and looked at the time. “1:30!” she said. It was time for lunch and a swim. She put the books back where she found them and then headed to the Coffee House for lunch.

Freya emerged onto a balcony on the top floor of Sigrun Sigurdottir Hall, which faced northwards. She could see a glint of the sea. “Maybe, something there,” she considered as she took out her sketchbook.

“Do you always talk to yourself?”

Freya turned and saw it was another of Dana’s friends. “Andrew, is it?” she asked.

“Yes, second year Botany and Ecology,” Andrew answered.

“Sort of like Dana, except she’s studying Entomology.”

“True, and you haven’t answered the question.”

“I guess I do,” Freya admitted. “A way to process things, part of the ADHD.”

“I heard about the treasure hunt too.”

“That was mostly the synaesthesia.”

“Right,” Andrew said. It was clear that he was thinking about it.

Freya turned back to the view.

Olivia arrived at the Aquatics Center after a quick lunch. ‘Good thing that was a small lunch,’ she thought. She wanted to get swimming straight away. She soon jumped in.

Half an hour later, she got out of the pool for a rest.

“You seem quite fast,” someone said.

Olivia looked and saw that it was Flavia. “Hi, Flavia. I have been swimming since I was quite young.”

“That explains it, then.”

“It helps me de-stress.”

“You do seem… calmer, than you did in class,” Flavia responded.

“Yes. There’s something about the rhythm that helps me.”

Olivia got out of the pool and joined Flavia on the deck.

“At least the pool isn’t busy today,” the latter said.

“Even if the deck is crowded, I can remain calm in the water,” Olivia said.

“That’s good,” Flavia said. “Like, I saw how you were anxious about the crowds when we were in class.”

Olivia nodded. “I’ve always been like that.”

“It’s fine,” Flavia said. “I have my own anxieties.”

Olivia gave a small smile. “No one’s perfect.”

“Anyway, what have you been up to, besides swimming?”

“Looking into mysteries in the Nordic Era.”

“You might have said something about that,” Flavia said.

“I have found more from the Capture of Urbs Aeterna.”

“But you’re uncertain?”

“I found some discrepancies,” Olivia answered.

“Sometimes contradictory accounts are written.”

“I know that. But it leaves what actually did happen as a mystery.”

Flavia just gave a smirk.

Freya finished her sketch.

“That looks great!” Andrew said.

“Thanks, but I wanted to bring out more of the distant sea.”

“Maybe that’s one reason why you’re here?”

“Certainly,” Freya responded. “I want to improve my art and compositions.”

After talking with Flavia, Olivia had changed and went back to the Library. “2:50,” she said as she glanced at the large clock in the Grand Atrium. ‘Plenty of time,’ she thought as she headed back to the Nordic Section.

She continued going through various books.

Freya continued to spend the afternoon sketching and talking with others who joined her on the balconies.

“This is a great look at the campus,” Anise said as she looked at one of Freya’s sketches and then out towards where she could see the top of the Main Library in the distance.

“I always look for places to do my sketches,” Freya responded. “Even if they can be overwhelming sometimes.”

“Huh?”

“The ADHD and synaesthesia together does lead to sensory sensitivities.”

“Oh,” Anise said.

“Sometimes, I need to close my eyes, but have adapted to that.”

“How?”

“Creating tactile art and improving my pattern recognition skills,” Freya answered. “And I’m going to need the latter if I’m going to solve those Renaissance mysteries.”

“Maybe you’re reading too much into it?”

“No, there is a definite mystery.”

Freya then saw that Anise was in thought.

‘A mystery, she said,’ Anise thought as she watched Freya continue to sketch.

“My sketching process isn’t that interesting, is it?”

“I like watching others do art. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so I get flustered when mine doesn’t come out how I’d like it to.”

“This is the result of lifelong practice, persistence and encouragement,” Freya said.

“Didn’t you say that you’re from a family or artists.”

“That’s right.”

Olivia left the Library as the sun set. She knew that she had only scratched the surface of the mystery.

By the time she reached Janus Hadrian Hall, the brighter stars that could outshine Urbs Aeterna’s light pollution had started coming out. She looked up, appreciative, as the AAUA campus had less extraneous light than her home suburb. ‘Prettier,’ she thought.

Matthew 21:12 - 27

Jesus Declares His Authority

Authority

The power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience.

'He had absolute authority over his subordinates.'

Jesus had entered Jerusalem as a statement.

Isaiah 53:1 - 7

2 Samuel 5:6 - 10

David conquering Jerusalem, using a water tunnel.

vs 12 - 13

It's not what you think

Rather the meaning of the temple had been corrupted by:

Them making it

A brigand's lair.

- the center of resistance to Roman authority.

Instead

vs 14, 15

Jesus healing the blind and lame. (Contrast, David keeping them out of Jerusalem after his conquest.)

Our pride is tied up in being right.

Jesus was confronting the pride of the Pharisees and Saducees.

Jesus was:

- Looking for fruit

-- In the Temple

-- On the fig tree

The Fig Tree

A metaphor

- for the Pharisees and Saducees lacking fruit.

The mountain

- The Temple was built on a mountain

- There is something better.

Think on the Messiah King and His authority.

Where does He need to find fruit?

- In us

What would it look like to...

... stop treating Jesus as simply a role model and start serving Him as our sovereign King?

To deny ourselves, take up our cross, and make serving Jesus our highest priority?

Then

We wouldn't be content with just blending into the world around us. We would like as loyal subjects of a heavenly kingdom, giving our lives in service to Christ our King.

Monday Writings - 17th February 2025

17th February

Excerpt from: Daria on Berk

Daria breathed a sigh of relief. “Good.”

“But that’s just the start,” Hiccup said.

“Of course,” Daria said. ‘Riding a dragon…’

Excerpt from: Jade Survives

As she climbed down the stairs, she heard Jo, Tama and the other girl enter the house, along with a boy.

She hid in the kitchen.

“Who are you?”

Excerpt from: Mirror Mirror – Jade the Wildcard

Jade Coigley was always difficult. She was always getting into trouble, despite her mother trying to rein her in.

It started when Mia and Jesse were hospitalized due to that drum…

Jade threw down the crowbar and it pierced the drum. She saw Mia and Jesse collapse and winced as Jo called for her mother at the top of her lungs.

Excerpt from: The Engineer and the Time Lady

That wasn’t surprising.

Comparison of Aialah’s home nation with the United States.”

The political organisation of the Kingdoms of Nalara is much more structured than the United States of America.

Excerpt from: Journey to the End

She walked into the Tavern several minutes later. Someone welcomed her at the door.

“Welcome traveler. If you go to the front desk, we’ll get you settled for the night.”

“Thanks.”

Excerpt from: Mysteries of Aurora

“You might have said something about that,” Flavia said.

“I have found more from the Capture of Urbs Aeterna.”

“But you’re uncertain?”

“I found some discrepancies,” Olivia answered.

“Sometimes contradictory accounts are written.”

“I know that. But it leaves what actually did happen as a mystery.”

Flavia just gave a smirk.

Freya finished her sketch.

Excerpt from: Spider Quinn

Sandi was waiting for her order, and occasionally looking at Anders, when she heard the news on the radio. “A robot pterodactyl is causing havoc in the Lawndale Mall. Dafoanairi has responded.

‘Robot pterodactyl!’ Sandi thought. ‘But I’m sure that Daria would find who’s responsible before I could get there, even if a I jack a car.’ She didn’t want to resort to that.

“Here’s your latte, Sandi,” Stacy said.

“Thanks.”

“What was that about a pterodactyl?”

“Something Dafoanairi is fighting,” Sandi answered.

“More things…”

Dafoanairi looked at the robotic pterodactyl as it flew around the food court. ‘I can do something about this. I don’t need the Engima to knock it out with one of her projections, or SpiderGirl to catch it in a web.’ She looked at her quarterstaff. ‘I could damage it that way, but there is another way.’ She looked at one of her ropes. ‘I can use that. But it would be better to find whoever it is controlling it remotely. They would have to be nearby.’ She approached the area carefully and looked around.

The robot swooped over her.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” she said as she twirled the quarterstaff. “It looks like I can damage it if I get a hit in.”

She looked around. There were many tables from where she could get a good swing from. ‘But I’ll try to lasso it first. I’ll see if I can get the attention of the controller that way.’

Dafoanairi clambered up on to a table as the pterodactyl turned around and came back in her direction. She prepared her rope. She then threw her lasso at nearly the last second.

Ninja Talon hadn’t expected to be active that day, as she was still recovering from the injury she had sustained two days earlier. She had been shopping as the usual, but recovering, Brittany when she had seen the robot pterodactyl causing chaos. She knew that Quinn was tutoring Angie, and so went to the bathroom to change.

She emerged into the food court and saw Dafoanairi expertly lasso the robot pterodactyl. ‘But she probably will need help,’ she thought.

Indeed, Dafoanairi was struggling. The robot was trying to get loose and dragging her along. ‘But then it was probably designed with SpiderGirl in mind, to draw her attention. Yet another person trying to draw her out.’ Her thoughts were then interrupted as a couple of shuriken struck the side of the robot. She looked and saw Ninja Talon approaching with a limp. “Ninja Talon?” she asked.

“Hey, Dafoanairi, mind if I help?”

“Not at all. But I notice that you’re limping.”

“I’ll tell you later,” Ninja Talon said as she fired a zip line.

It whipped around one of the pterodactyl’s wings.

Spider Quinn 14 Battle and Consequence Part 4

At Casa Lane, Jane was still thinking about what was happening with Tania when a report came on the radio. “SpiderGirl, Ninja Talon and the fourth vigilante are in a battle against an aircraft similar to the one responsible for the Groundhog Day Attack…”

“Uh oh!” Jane said. “The Shadow is on it!” she said.

Less than a minute later, the Shadowcar left Casa Lane.

The Enigma had retreated to recuperate. ‘Did Mother experience this in Boston?’ she wondered.

As SpiderGirl swung in again she could see that the glider was rather battered, and the Goblin’s suit was torn in places. She webbed up part of it and as several of Ninja Talon’s shuriken hit home at damaged areas.

“The Enigma was a tough opponent, SpiderGirl,” the Goblin said in a taunting tone.

“I’m tougher,” SpiderGirl said. “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility and I have the responsibility to protect the people of Lawndale from your plans, whatever they are.”

“You’re deluded!” the Goblin said. He threw a bomb in SpiderGirl’s direction.

She threw it aside with a web, with it exploding in midair. She then signalled Talon.

Ninja Talon leapt off a rooftop onto the glider.

“Think you can defeat me this way?” the Goblin asked.

“Yes!”  Ninja Talon said as she grabbed him and tried to flip him off the glider.

The Goblin reacted. “I am also experienced in martial arts and this is a very dangerous environment to spar.”

“I know, but Spidey has my back.”

“You’re rather familiar with her, aren’t you?”

Ninja Talon was silent as she danced aside from one of the Green Goblin’s strikes.

The Enigma regained her strength. ‘Is it a second wind?’ she wondered. She saw that Ninja Talon and the Goblin were sparring on the glider. ‘They are both very good,’ she thought. She thought about shooting the glider again, but she didn’t want to risk hitting Ninja Talon.

The Shadow arrived on the street as Ninja Talon flipped off the glider onto a fire escape. She saw SpiderGirl attempting to web the glider again. “Let’s see, dramatic fog and paint missile.” A targeting crosshair came up onto the heads-up display and the Shadow targeted the glider with a touchpad on the horn button. She then flipped another switch and a fog was released.

The paint missile hit the glider, causing further damage. The Goblin, tired from his sparring, only barely managed to hang on.

“Paint…” SpiderGirl mused. “Is it the Shadow?”

“Probably,” Ninja Talon said.

“And the Goblin is distracted,” SpiderGirl said, as she swung off.

The Enigma watched as the Shadow used a grapple gun to get onto a rooftop. ‘I’ll help,’ she decided.

“The Shadow. You didn’t do much last time,” the Goblin said.

“I did plenty,” the Shadow said. “My fogs and those of my mentor helped defeat you.”

“But your mentor isn’t here.”

“No, she isn’t, but she doesn’t need to be!”

“You think you’re good enough?” the Green Goblin asked.

“Not by myself, but SpiderGirl and Ninja Talon are still here.”

SpiderGirl swung over the glider and webbed out more of the bombs.

“Distracting me, is that it?” the Goblin asked.

“That’s part of it!” Ninja Talon said as she flipped onto the glider again. Another sparring session began.

“I was fighting fair last time,” the Goblin said.

“So was I!” Ninja Talon said as she unsheathed her katana and swiped the control panel, causing more damage.

“No!” the Goblin cried out as the glider began to fall.

“Yes!” Ninja Talon said as she extended her talons. She swiped them across the Goblin’s torso and leapt off the glider to another fire escape.

“Ow!” the Goblin grumbled. The glider was still falling. He tried to pull it up. “Oh no!”

The Goblin ejected from the glider and activated a jetpack. He watched it explode on the street. “You have won this battle, so called heroes of Lawndale! But I will have the last laugh.”

“I can still catch you!” the Enigma said from a nearby rooftop. She pointed her arms downwards; palms open as her hands glowed with her powers.

“What?” the Goblin asked.

The Enigma pushed downwards telekinetically at the same time as firing projections and thus launched into the air, towards where the Green Goblin was hovering.

“I’m not defenseless,” the Goblin said as he raised a firearm.

With a flick, the Enigma disarmed him and then the two collided in midair.

“What is she doing?” Ninja Talon asked.

“Be ready to catch either of them,” SpiderGirl said.

“I am,” the Shadow said. “If you’re not.”

The Enigma grappled with the Goblin. “This is for kidnapping Beresfield!” she said. “And for trying to take over Lawndale!”

“Beresfield? She was getting too close. As for Lawndale, I have plans,” the Goblin then lowered his voice. “You don’t understand, Sandi!”

“What?” the Enigma asked.

“I just figured it out. Who else would bring up Beresfield?”

“Oops!” the Enigma said as she pulled off the Goblin’s helmet with a burst of strength.

There was a crazed look in his eyes. “And I know about your mother’s past.”

“She was a superhero, and now I am,” the Enigma said as one of her hands started to glow.

“She was an antihero, who did things,” the Goblin said.

“What else is new? So what? So am I and I do things!” the Enigma shot back. She then shot a projection at the jetpack. She then telekinetically pushed it and the Goblin in separate directions.

“Ugh!” the Goblin said.

SpiderGirl grabbed the Enigma as she fell.

“Truce,” the Enigma said. “I need to rest.”

“Good,” SpiderGirl responded. “But what did he say to you?”

“He knows my secret identity.”

“That’s not good,” SpiderGirl considered. “But I don’t want to know it.”

“I may want to know yours, but I don’t want to find out this way.”

“Right.”

The Shadow caught the Green Goblin. “Got you!”

“Oh no! The Enigma did something!” the Goblin said.

“She clearly did,” the Shadow said. “We all did. We defeated you.”

“I don’t know who you are.”

“That’s good! You can’t come after me.”

“She definitely did something. There’s tingling in my legs,” the Goblin said.

“I’ll get you to the Hospital,” the Shadow said.

“You are?” Ninja Talon asked as she walked up.

“Yes. It’s the least I can do.”

The ninja nodded.

SpiderGirl placed the Enigma on the ground. “Why do you want to be my rival?” she asked.

“Because I think your methods aren’t what Lawndale needs. Too simplistic for a complicated town of today.”

“Simplistic? Taking responsibility isn’t simplistic!”

“At least think about what I said,” the Enigma said as she turned and left.

The Shadow placed the Goblin on the back seat. She pressed a button and he was secured with seat belts. “You didn’t need to do that!” he said.

“I will be driving fast,” the Shadow responded. “I want to get you to the hospital quickly.”

Ninja Talon watched the Shadow drive away. SpiderGirl then joined her. “We better get going,” she said.

“Of course.”

They turned a corner, heading towards the Historia, which they could see in the distance. “That was intense,” Ninja Talon said. “Almost as much as last week.”

“I agree. It’s a good thing the Enigma and the Shadow showed up, otherwise there would have been more damage and you might have been injured.”

“I haven’t been yet.”

“Good, but I have,” SpiderGirl said. “But I have enhanced healing.”

“I have thought about that. But what did the Enigma say to you then?”

“That the Goblin knows her secret identity.”

Ninja Talon shook her head. “That’s not good.”

“It isn’t. I don’t want to know hers…”

“What?”

“She said that she wants to know mine,” SpiderGirl admitted.

“Then I hope she doesn’t find out.”

“She won’t. I’m certain about it.”

‘There’s something she isn’t saying,’ Ninja Talon thought. ‘But she will tell me when she’s ready.’

“But that battle. Is that what the future holds for us? Protecting Lawndale from villains like him, who cause destruction?”

“Probably. But Oscorp is still here too.”

“That’s a good point. Oscorp is bigger than just Norman Osborn,” SpiderGirl said.

The Shadow pulled up as close to the Emergency Room at Cedars of Lawndale as she could get.

“We’re here,” she said, as she opened the back door. She saw that the Goblin was worse than at the scene of the battle. ‘Fortunately, Mom was prepared,’ she thought as she pressed a button and the seat extended out from the car and became a wheelchair with a platform on the back.

“Coming through,” the Shadow said as she and Osborn entered the ER.

“Is that Norman Osborn?” one of the nurses asked.

“Yes. I found him on a street downtown. It looks like something happened to him.”

“I’ll get a chair and a doctor,” the nurse said.

It wasn’t long before a doctor and a team of nurses came and took Osborn away. The Shadow then zipped back to the car on the seat.

At the Morgendorffers, Daria arrived back after the rescue and climbed back in through the window. She placed the staff in her room and went to her mother’s room.

Helen heard knocking at the door. “Come in.”

Daria opened the door. “I’m back,” she said quietly.

“What did you find out?”

“Not much.”

Helen could tell her daughter was hiding something. ‘But that’s Daria all over. She hasn’t gotten any more secretive since Jakey passed.’ Whatever it was, she would tell her when she was ready. “Not much?” she asked anyway.

“I need to think about it,” Daria said and sighed. “Have you seen anything about Oscorp at work?”

“Of course, Daria,” Helen said. “But nothing that is any different from other corporations. Is it about what you said about their presence in Lawndale?”

“That’s part of it,” Daria admitted. “But there’s more. I’ll say more another time,” she said before leaving.

Helen sighed.

Daria went back to her room and started writing in her journal about the rescue of Beresfield. ‘But what to tell Peterson about my possible hero identity? I can’t form one from the meanings of either of my given names. Not on their own anyway.’

“Is that you, Sandi?” Linda asked.

“Yes,” Sandi said as she came down the stairs.

“Did you and Daria rescue Beresfield?”

“Yes,” Sandi began and explained about the rescue and the following battle.

Sandi had left out the fact that Osborn had figured out her secret identity. ‘I don’t want to worry her too much,’ she thought.

“And then there is Tania Ashworth,” her mother said. “She came around saying that you’re the Shadow.”

“I know, she was at the Morgendorffers at the same time as I was, assuming the same of either of them.”

“Still, you need to be more careful. If Tania is going around trying to figure out the identities of the other vigilantes…”

“I have been careful,” Sandi said, despite the fact she wasn’t when talking to Osborn as the Goblin earlier.

Her mother sighed.

Quinn got home not long after Daria. She knocked on her door. “How did it go, earlier?” she asked.

“It was a success,” Daria answered.

“That’s good news.”

“But it’s a lot to take in. More about Oscorp.”

“What else is new?” Quinn asked rhetorically.

Ashley-Amber saw Brittany enter the kitchen. “There was a call for you earlier,” she said.

“Who?”

“Quinn.”

“I caught up with her,” Brittany responded enigmatically.

“Good to hear.”

Trent got home from a gig to see Jane waiting in the kitchen. “What’s up, Janie?” he asked.

“An eventful evening,” Jane answered.

“In what way?” Trent asked.

“Where to start? Tania Ashworth, and then a battle against the Green Goblin.”

“I thought we weren’t going to call him that? And what about Tania?”

“He called himself that. He’s actually Norman Osborn. I took him to the hospital afterwards,” Jane answered.

“Hmm, you better start from the beginning.”

Jane then explained, starting from Tania’s arrival.

Trent thought on it when Jane had concluded with her dropping Osborn off at the hospital. “The destruction of the glider, is good, right?”

“I’m sure it was a prototype. If it’s gone, they might not make more right away. It would be probably be a while before another is made,” Jane said. “Tania is more of a threat.”

“But what are you going do to do about that?”

“I’m not sure, other than be more careful when accusing people as the Shadow.”

“At least you know where you went wrong,” Trent said.

Jane nodded and then went up to her room to take solace in her art before bed.
