“No, but
disappointing. DeMartino should focus on the other students. That way Kevin
wouldn’t bring down the grades of those around him.”
“I have
thought that many times myself. But I’m happy with my B average History score.”
“And I’m
fine with my A average, but most of the class are C at best,” Daria said.
“That’s
true.”
The two
friends were then quiet as they contemplated the fact that Lawndale High was
messed up.
As they
came down to the ground floor Daria looked further down, at the door marked
‘basement.’ Once again she wondered what was down there, other than the steam
tunnels and storage rooms.
“Thinking
about the basement again?” Jane asked.
“Yes.
There’s something mysterious about it.”
“OF
course it’s mysterious. It’s a place where students aren’t allowed to go.”
Daria
looked at Jane. “They aren’t allowed on the roof either.”
“That’s
a good point, but now’s not the time.”

“Being creative already? That’s good. There should be
something around here, even if I don’t,” Jane responded with slight surprise.
Quinn nodded.
Jane soon found a sketch book that had slipped behind the
couch. It looked like she hadn’t used it. ‘Perfect for Quinn to use,’ she
thought.
“Thanks, Jane,” Quinn said as she opened the sketch book
Jane watched as Quinn sketched some abstract shapes.
Quinn looked at the time after she had filled a page with
shapes. 8:20. “We should get ready to go.”
“Are you sure?” Jane asked.
“Quite sure. We can go slowly.”
“I’ll get ready.”
It didn’t take long for them to leave the house. Quinn
looked at the other houses along Howard Drive. The street seemed different to
her, but then realised that she was different. She was more reflective than
before. ‘Amazing what a night can do.’
They approached the Morgendorffers to see that Daria,
Helen and Jake had just got back. “What are you going to say?” Jane asked.
“The truth. That Sandi forced me to leave. That will
probably get her into trouble as well as her mother facing my mother’s ire.”
“I wouldn’t want to be Linda Griffin at that moment,”
Jane said. “I know how your mother can be when she’s determined.”
Quinn smiled.
Daria saw Jane approaching with Quinn. ‘Wasn’t she at
Sandi’s?’ she wondered. “Hi Jane.”
“Quinn has a lot to say,” Jane said.
“This I’d like to hear,” Daria said.
“Hear me out,” Quinn said.
“It’s Mom you have to tell,” Daria said.
It was something Helen didn’t want to have to deal with,
having just got back into Lawndale after the experience with Grove Hills and
her clashes with Michele Landon.

Auroran Involvement in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms.
…
Freya knew that Alexia was
curious. ‘Let her be curious,’ she thought as she flipped through the pages.
Elsewhere in the library, Olivia
was wandering the area of the Nordic section where the records of that era (and
the copies) were kept. ‘Amazing that the paper is still viable,’ she thought.
But then she knew that AAUA was one of the best places in the world for
preservation of old records. She glanced at one of them. The dyslexia defeated
her for a moment and then she realised that it was in Norse, rather than the
Auroran of the period. ‘Of course,’ she groused to herself. ‘I’d be better off
looking at the Roman records.’
Even so, she was more curious
about the Nordic Era. ‘But I will get to the Roman Era eventually.’ She
continued wandering. ‘There has to be some Auroran translations somewhere.’

“That’s
interesting,” Anya said.
“I love
thinking about what happened in the past,” Chloe said with a dreamy look in her
eyes.
‘A
daydreamer, great!’ Anya thought. She didn’t want to have to help her with
deadlines.
“So,
what are you into?”
“Solving
mysteries.”
“What
kind of mysteries?” Chloe asked.

Andrea
returned refreshed. She looked at the video. “Yes!”
“Found
something?” Scott asked.
“It
covers the Historia, at least. But now to find the right time.”
Daria
shook her head as she watched Sandi walk to the laneway. ‘What am I getting
into?’ she wondered to herself yet again. ‘But it’s one way that Jane could be
rescued quickly. I have seen what she can do.’ She then went down to tell her
mother about the evening.
Helen
took in what Daria and Quinn said. “So, the night went well?” she asked. “And
the search for Jane continues?”
“Yes,”
Quinn answered.
“That’s
good news. But I hope Jane will be found soon,” Helen said.
“She
will, Mom,” Quinn said.
Helen
saw the determination in her daughter’s eyes. ‘That’s another way she has
changed,’ she thought. “But what happens now?”
“The
play goes on and we’ll talk again with the authorities tomorrow,” Daria said.
“I
think it’s wonderful that you’ve taken on so much responsibility, but you can
ask for help if you want,” Helen said.
“I’ll
keep that in mind,” Quinn said. “Besides, you already helped with the legal
stuff.”
“That’s
true,” Helen said. “But otherwise.”
“I
know,’ Quinn said.
At
Lawndale State, Andrea had found something. “Drat!”
“Drat?”
Scott asked.
“The
footage is blurry, but I can make out some figure leaving the Historia carrying
another one and then going down a manhole.”
“That’s
what the vigilantes found, wasn’t it?”
“Yes,
but it’s proof.”
“But
how does that show where they went?” Scott asked.
“It
doesn’t,” Andrea said. She changed the screen. “The map shows that the
municipal CCTV is focused around the downtown area and the various other
commercial zones in Lawndale. The School has their own. The Malls both have
their own and Oscorp has their own.” She took out a copy of the Oscorp map
SpiderGirl and Ninja Talon had given her and gave it to Scott.
“That
large a presence?” he asked after a moment.
“Yes,
which is why I helped them with the blueprints of the vehicle used on Groundhog
Day. Ninja Talon said that they destroyed it.”
“It
was a prototype?”
“Yes,”
Andrea answered “But anyway, I’m almost done. Sorry if you had plans this
evening.”
“No
big deal. I would have been gaming anyway.”
“What
sort of games?”
“Mostly
real time strategy, like Age of Empires. The second game is awesome.”
It
was 10:00 before Andrea had found more footage and burned it to a CD. “Done.”
“What
about your parents?” Scott asked.
“They
know I’m out and about. Usually I would be at the Zon or Zen on Fridays. I will
be home early for once. Ninja Talon will show up at some point in the night.”
It
well after midnight, when Sandi returned to the Morgendorffers. Daria’s light
was on as usual. She saw that Quinn’s was off. ‘Hopefully she’s asleep,’ she
thought as she climbed up the trellis.
Daria
was ready. “Let’s do this,” she said as she cloaked up as Dafoanairi.
“You’re
leaving that way?” Sandi said as she tied her hair back.
“This
house isn’t observed much,” Dafoanairi responded. “Tania was a one off.”
“I
guess so,” the Enigma said as she threw off her jacket, showing the purple
ensemble beneath.
“You’re
going to leave that here?”
“I’ll
be back.”
“That’s
true,” Dafoanairi said. “Let’s go.”
After
Dafoanairi and the Enigma had left, SpiderGirl left via the backyard hatch and
swung away to the east, heading towards the Hecuba-Crofts.
Ninja
Talon hadn’t been waiting long on the Hecuba-Croft’s roof when SpiderGirl
arrived. “Ready?” the former asked.
“Of
course,” SpiderGirl said. “I’m just worried that she didn’t find anything.”
“Same
here. But we will find Jane and the critics anyway.”
“But
just searching near the Lake probably wouldn’t be a good idea.”
“Not
if it’s done randomly,” Ninja Talon said.
“Another
plan?” SpiderGirl asked with a slight giggle. “I’d like to hear it.”
“After
we talk with Andrea.”
Andrea
saw the two vigilantes enter her room again.
