Anya smelled Earl Grey Tea as she unpacked her
meticulously arranged belongings. She heard the door open. She turned and saw a
blonde girl enter. “Hi,” she said.
“Hi, I’m Chloe.”
“Anya.”
Chloe rushed in like a whirlwind and accidentally knocked
over stack of Anya’s books.

After
Sylvia had guided her to the room, Illiana started mapping it out with her
hands and feet. She took a while in doing that.
It was a
while before the bard came back out to the main room. “How did you find it?” Sylvia
asked.
“It’s
suitable,” the bard answered. “And I’m sure the boy’s room is more than
suitable for him.”
“I’m Sylvia.”
“Illiana,
but the boy hasn’t told me his name yet.”
Sylvia
was sure that Illiana had her own story, but she was willing to wait. She
poured some water and pushed it Into Illiana’s hand.

“I’ll help you,” she said.
“Thanks,” Elias said.
“But I’ll like to look at the area on a map.”
“I’m sure we can find one in the Library.”
“I’ll just finish here,” Clare said.
“Sure,” Elias said.
Elias and Clare quickly found an atlas of the country. “Here,”
he pointing at an area 100 kilometers south of their city on the relevant map. “This
is where my grandparents’ farm is.”

Freya nodded.
“You can go now.”
“Thanks for the reassurance,” Freya said as she got up.
“Any time.”
Freya found Daniela at the Main Cafeteria, which was on
the opposite side of the Central Plaza from the western entrance of the Main
Library.
“The oldest coffee house in Aurora,” Daniela said, as
Freya came up.
“Is it?” Freya asked.
“That’s what they say.”
She looked around. It certainly looked to be from that
era.
“How were the classes?” Daniela asked.
“Engaging, and the professors were understanding of my
needs and questions. It helps that there have been others in the past.”
“I wonder if it’s gone under the radar in the past.”
“Quite likely, but it seems that AAUA has always moved
with the times,” Freya said.
“But there also parts that seem reluctant to move
forward.”

“No, I
don’t,” Elias said.
“I don’t
need a boat,” Claudia said.
“Huh?” Elias
asked.
“I swam
here from the street, as I usually do,” Claudia answered.
“A park
that is a swamp, that people swim through,” Christina mused.
“That’s
certainly different,” Elias said.
“Different?”
Claudia asked.
“Usually
people wouldn’t swim through swamps,” Christina said.
“They do
here, in this universe,” Claudia said. “But I could get a boat and come back.”
“That
would probably be a good idea,” Elias said.
Claudia
turned. “I will be back within a half hour,” she said. “See you then.” She then
dived into the water and swam as she usually did.
“She’s
underwater,” Christina said as she looked out over the swamp.
“I can
see that, but I’m sure she’s a good swimmer,” Elias said, as he examined the dialling
device. “It looks OK.”
“The
dialling device?” Christina asked.
“Yes,
and the Dimension Gate itself.”

‘There he is!’ Jane thought, as she noticed the haste
with which Daniel had left the school premises. ‘You can’t get away from me
that easily.’ She reflected that her rash departure would be noticed by Anna
Marie, but she would do damage control later, after she had regained the opal.
She then followed Daniel across the street.
Anna Marie noticed Jane’s absence immediately after exiting
the Maths class. ‘Of course, Jane is following Daniel,’ she thought. She knew
that Daniel had the opal, as she had seen him with it when she got to class. She
quickly went in the direction of the front of the school.
As she exited the school grounds, Anna Marie saw Jane
running after Daniel down the street. ‘That’s not good,’ she thought. She
looked back, but she didn’t see Sharon, Clare or anyone else who had been
involved in the events earlier in the day. “I guess it’s up to me,” she said to
herself. She then followed after Jane.
“Come back here, Daniel!”
Daniel turned to find Jane close behind him. ‘How could
she sneak up like that.’ It made him walk faster.

“Anything happen overnight?” Quinn asked.
“The fourth vigilante located Jane, but there are traps
around the cabin,” Daria answered.
“The Enigma, you mean,” Quinn said. “She told some of us
the name after Jane was taken.”
‘Of course she did, but that’s her prerogative,’ Daria
thought. “Right, the Enigma.”
“I don’t think she likes me for some reason,” Quinn added.
‘You don’t know the half of it,’ Daria thought. That was one
minor reason she was keeping her identity a secret.
“I did pick up some tension,” Peterson said.
“Like, I’m sure there are many at school who don’t like
me,” Quinn said.
“Because of the Fashion Club?” Peterson asked.
“Yes,” Quinn answered. “I realise now that we came across
as bossy and elitist.”
Joey entered the café at the same time as Robert. He saw
that Daria and Quinn were already there and eating breakfast with Peterson. ‘I better
get breakfast too.’ He saw that Stacy was behind the counter, as had become
usual for a Saturday.
Stacy saw Joey come up. “The usual, Joey?”
“Sure,” Joey answered.
“And you were here last night?”
“Of course. I had to see the play on opening night.”
“I’ll see it tonight,” Stacy said.
Agent Ken Leung entered the Historia, along with his
daughter, Kristen, and saw that Peterson and the four partners were already there
having breakfast.
“I’ll see you later, Dad,” Kristen said.
“Have a good day, but be careful.”
“Of course,” Kristen said as she went over to the
bookshop, which had just opened.
Leung joined the group at the table. Daria and Peterson told
him what the Enigma and Dafoanairi had found.
“I still find the fourth vigilante’s powerset a bit difficult
to believe,” he admitted.
“But there are limitations,” Daria said. “Hence why she
went to the lake to conduct her search.”
“She’s still rather powerful, and you say she has a
mentor with similar powers,” Leung said.
“Yes,” Daria answered. “She might either be more powerful,
or just have a much better handle on what she can do.”
“That makes sense,” Quinn said.
“She’s planning to make a move at midday, during the
storm,” Daria said.
“Noon,” Leung considered. “We can redirect our efforts in
that direction before then.”
“LDPD can be ready too,” Peterson said.
“But what about tonight?” Robert asked.
“Hopefully, Beck would be caught,” Quinn said.
“But he might escape,” Daria said. “Even if Jane and the
others are rescued.”
“That’s true,” Leung said. “Our priority will be the
safety of the abductees.”
