Excerpt from: Invisible Vampire Hunter

“I guess so.”

“You know my name,” Dana said.

“Was it, Dana?”

“Yes, what is yours?”

The roommate twirled the end of one of her pigtails. "Um, I'm not sure I want to give it out to an invisible presence," she said shyly.

A shy one,” Dana commented to herself.

The roommate sat on her bed. “You can call me VJ.”

“Definitely.”

“And so, as you can see, I have some ideas already,” Jane said.

Brittany wandered around the room and saw her friend’s usual creativity exploding out onto various papers. She had always admired Jane for it, as her art was more tame by comparison. “I see you’re making caricatures,” she commented.

“Kevin is quite easy for it,” Jane said.

“I can imagine that. And Mr. DeMartino.”

“I just have to be careful not to make his eye too big.”

“True, otherwise it would be creepy,” Brittany said.

“I have travelled far,” the bard said when she had reached the bar.

“How far?” Sylvia wondered.

“From Candlekeep, all along the Sword Coast, seeking out the Jewel of the North, as this city is known, relying on hearing, touch and smell,” the bard answered.

They found a desk nearby and started leafing through it.

The first pages were colour coded by topic. They could indeed see that all topics were scattered about the Library. “But these are the top level by discipline,” Alexia said. “I would think the more in detail topics are held together in whatever section.”

“I agree,” Freya said. She looked at the time. She had plenty of time before her next, class, which was after lunch.

They found what they were looking for in the middle of the book. The Ancient Section, in the middle was coloured red, then it shifted through the rainbow, such that the sections built in the 20th Century were marked in purple. “This is interesting,” Freya said.

“But does it go into further detail?” Alexia asked.

“That is why I’m here,” Jess said in a similar tone. “Because the timeline has changed.”

“In what way?” Catherine asked.

“Who you may know as Danae, is actually Daniel in my timeline.”

“Are you sure?”

“I am sure,” Jess answered. “We had just been to 3002 for the first time. When we came back. Daniel’s room was now Danae’s room.”

“A trip to the far future…” Catherine considered. That wasn’t where the problem lay. “So you think the timeline has changed.”

“I know some of what is different in my time.”

“Which is?”

“2002.”

“Not that far ahead,” Catherine murmured. “1998.”

“I’ll go back to Dubbo through the portal now,” Hannah said, as they had found a portal in the house during the night.

“I’ll see you later,” Jane said.

“Right.”

Dubbo

Hannah emerged from the portal and then headed westwards along Birch Avenue in the direction she was sensing the opal. She didn’t need to go back and tell Jane.

In West Dubbo at the Alwyn’s house. "Elias, could I take Jeremiah to your grandparents place?" asked Hayley Draper. Hayley was Elias and Jeremiah's cousin who had travelled back in time to become involved in the events with the genie, Jeanine.

“Of course, Hayley,” Elias responded.

“OK, Jeremiah, let’s go.”

“Why not?”

“It’ll cost the school extra.”

“I don’t care!” Felicia said fiercely.

“Go ahead,” Mr. Harrison said in a resigned tone.

“You’re allowed,” the paramedic said.

“Thanks, Felicia,” MJ said as the ambulance got under way. She then fainted again.

“Um…” Felicia said.

“She’s fainted again.”

After the ambulance arrived at the Emergency Room, Felicia was sent to the waiting room.

She couldn’t rest, and couldn’t read the magazines that she didn’t like anyway, as her mind was full of worry for MJ.

“Felicia Hardy?” an orderly asked.

“Yes. How is MJ, Mary Jane?”

“She’s stable, but sleeping off the venom.”

Excerpt from: Spider Quinn

“Jane will be found soon. I promise that.”

Twenty minutes later, Quinn had made her decision. She went up to Dani. “Dani, you’re hired.”

“Thanks, Quinn,” Dani said.

“You do realise that you have to start right away, right?”

“Of course. The play starts in half an hour.”

“And you may need to clean up any mess Beck left behind,” Quinn pointed out.

“Of course.”

At Lawndale State, Scott and Andrea entered one of the computer labs. “Thanks for letting me do this,” Andrea said.

“Again, I want whoever is abducting people to be caught.”

“Of course, but there is a risk to you.”

“I will deal with it,” Scott said as he lead Andrea to the back. “We should go unnoticed. But there will be logs.”

“I’ll deal with it.”

Scott logged in. “There. As you can see, they’re still running Windows NT 4.0 on these systems.”

“What about the server?” Andrea asked.

“That is Unix, but I’m not sure of the specifics.”

“That is fine,” Andrea said as she sat.

Brittany returned to the Historia to find that there was a line up. ‘Not surprising,’ she thought as she headed to the backstage area.

Dani came up to Quinn and Daria.

“What’s the situation?” Daria asked.

“The effects seem to be normal projected effects,” Dani said. “Mostly the storm at the beginning and some of Prospero’s magic.”

“That’s what I expected,” Daria said.

“But there might be unexpected ‘bugs’ that Beck left in,” Dani added. “It might cause some hiccups.”

“I knew that might happen,” Quinn said.

“But I’m sure that it will go well,” Dani said. “Even if people have been comparing it to another of the Bard’s plays.”

“I can guess which one,” Daria grumbled.

“Huh?” Quinn asked.

“One of Shakespeare’s other plays is referred to as the ‘Scottish Play’ because it involves a power struggle in Scotland and is rumored to include real magic, and thus was cursed,” Daria explained.

“Got it,” Quinn said.

“And it involves swordplay, and therefore accidents can happen, including broken legs,” Dani added.

“There’s not much action in this one,” Quinn said.

Soon, everyone was in their seats and the lights went down, and the curtain went up.

Agent Leung joined Peterson out in the lobby. “The play has started?” he asked.

“Yes,” Peterson answered. “There are plainclothes officers all around the building, including in the café.”

“That’s good planning.”

“But it took last night to happen.”

“I’m here and so is my partner,” Leung said.

“And SpiderGIrl, as her secret identity.”

“You sound uncertain.”

“That’s because I’m not entirely sure, and I promised myself that I would protect her,” Peterson said with annoyance.

“Then keep it to yourself,” Leung said. “Between you and I, My wife has been ordered by SHIELD to find out the identities of the vigilantes, but she has ignored them so far.”

“Is that wise?”

Leung shrugged. “It’s up to her.” He looked at Peterson again. She seemed guarded. ‘Maybe SpiderGirl isn’t only one she suspects the identity of.’

Sandi had overheard the two talking from inside the café. ‘So, Peterson suspects someone is SpiderGIrl,’ she thought as she took a bite from her dinner.

“A thought?” Harry asked.

Of the fifty species loaded, only one has had any difficulty surviving. All the others are thriving, and we expect them to be able to repopulate.”

“So, the Atlanteans took the dragons off their island to take them elsewhere through time?” Astrid asked.

“But Time Travel should be impossible,” Fishlegs said.

“How do you figure?” Tuffnut asked.

“It would take too long to explain and you won’t understand anyway,” Fishlegs said.

“Anyway, we’re on the ship, and we need to find Hiccup and the Jorgensons,” Astrid said.

“Maybe there is something here?” Ruffnut asked.

“Probably, but I don’t want to messing with mechanisms I don’t understand.”

Excerpt from: Genie Universe Continuity Reboot – Remembering Clare

Saturday, 9 November 2024

Geurie

Elias looked at the post. He didn’t quite believe it. Clare Berry had died! He read further.

Others were expressing disbelief, and acknowledged that Clare had been rather kind.

But it was one that struck him, that she had had a long illness.

He hadn’t know that, but then he had lost contact with her after school. The fleeting contact that social media offered was no substitute for actual meetings or in depth emails.

As the day went on, he realized that he hadn’t really known Clare.

“Yes,” Freya answered. “There are more shades for each subdiscipline in each area.”

“I see that.”

“Let’s copy this.”

“Wait,” Alexia said.

“We’ll then look at more pages.”

“Sure.”

Alexia saw that Freya was a little different and it wasn’t just her pink hair.

“You have said it,” Olivia said.

“We’ll wait for another half hour, then we will send someone else to investigate,” Jane said.

“We may need to discuss that,” Danielle said.

“Of course,” Jane said.

Destiny

“The interference is starting to clear, Captain,” So’lek reported. “The sensors are picking up the genie near the corner of Tamworth and Gipps Streets.

“And are we also picking up the opal?” Captain Phillip Callacouros asked.

“Negative. It is still shrouding the opal.”

“Acknowledged,” Phillip said. Despite being tired, he decided to stay on the Bridge for a while longer.

Dubbo

Hayley Draper exited the forest into South Dubbo. She realized that she probably should have gone around.

Nicola Jefferies, Aliadine Sultanalie, Danielle Stewartson and Renee John had finished helping one family in Jubilee Street. They crossed the road, back in the direction that Nicola and Aliadine had come. “Do you think that more events like this will happen?” Renee asked Nicola.

“I hope not, but it is likely,” Nicola reponded.

“We will continue looking for the opal soon,” Danielle said. “More neighbours are helping.”

“I have noticed that,” Nicola said.

Excerpt from: Spider Quinn

“I overheard something out there.”

“That they’re going to find Jane?”

“More about SpiderGirl,” Sandi answered. “The officer thinks she’s here but isn’t sure.”

“I see.”

“The fourth vigilante and Dafoanairi might be here too.’

“How do you figure that?” Harry asked.

“They were here last night.”

Harry thought about what Sandi said. ‘SpiderGirl didn’t show up, but Ninja Talon did. The fourth vigilante and Dafoanairi did, but there was no mention of the Shadow.

Tania entered the stage as Ceres. “Hail, many colored messenger, that never disobeys the wife of Jupiter.

Who with your saffron wings upon my flowers diffuse honeydrops, refreshing showers.

And with each end of the thy blue bow does crown my busy acres and my unshrubbed down.

Rich scarf to my proud Earth. Why has my queen summoned me hither to this short-grassed green?”

“A contract of true love to celebrate,

And some donation freely to estate

On the blessed lovers,” Nadia said as Iris.

There was a flicker, as of something.

“Uh oh!” Dani said. “I’m on it. It seems minor.”

“It doesn’t seem minor,” Quinn said.

“A little more major,” Dani said as she changed to another screen. “He has left some scripts running. But I can manage it. There.”

Quinn saw that the flickering was over.

Neither Tania, nor Nadia were flustered and thus continued their lines through the disturbance.

“Honor, riches, marriage blessing,” Cindy sang.

‘What other surprises are waiting for us?’ Daria wondered.

However, the rest of the play went by smoothly and when the curtain went down there was a standing ovation.

At Lawndale State, Andrea was slowly making progress. Scott asked for progress when he came back from a vending machine.

“Slowly,” Andrea answered. “There are a number of cameras along Main Street. It’s taking time to locate the ones near the Historia. I’m sure the play is over now.”

“9:00, I’,m sure it is.”

Daria, Quinn, Joey, Robert, Brittany, Jennifer, Dani, Peterson and Leung met in the café ten minutes after the play had ended.

“The play went off a minimum of hitches,” Quinn said.

“True,” Dani said. “But there is no telling what else Beck may have put into the system.”

“And it is lucky that Tania and Nadia stayed composed,” Brittany said. She twirled a pigtail. “They are usually that way, but others may not have reacted that way.”

“I agree,” Daria said. “We got lucky.” She turned to Leung. “Any thing you can say about your investigation?”

“We were still scouring the area within a mile downstream of the Jefferson Bridge as of nightfall,” Leung said. “The search will resume as of first light.”

“I see,” Quinn said.

“I can also report that LDPD didn’t see any suspicious activity around the theater during the play,” Peterson said.

“Like it’s quiet,” Jennifer said.

They all looked at the usually quiet blonde.

“Like maybe this Quentin Beck is waiting for something,” Jennifer added.

“That is likely,” Daria said. “But how to guard against someone who seems to use the stormwater system with impunity.”

“We can’t guard all the manholes around the theater,” Peterson said.

“We need to stick to guarding the theater itself,” Joey said.
