The Youngest Barksdale - Part 6

“I just wanted to make sure your visit to Lawndale High has been everything you hoped it would be,” the Principal said.

“This place rocks!”

“Also, I was wondering... what's Garth Brooks really like?”

“Don't know him -- but check out Skeet's underwear spread in my next issue.” Val said. “We're talking hot. How do you want yours signed?”

“Oh, any old way. ‘To Angela Li. To my friend, Angela Li. To a good friend and a great educator, Angela Li.’”

“Cool,” Val responded. “Andrea, you’re taking notes, right?”

“Yes, Andrea, this is an educational opportunity for you.”

“Oh, I’m definitely learning!” Andrea said in a sarcastic tone.

Val’s phone then rang. “Excuse me.”

“Go ahead, you got Val. Oh, hey, Nonie, honey. What? What? He what? With Gwynnie? That slut! Are you sure? No, of course you had to tell me.”

Andrea didn’t care, although it seemed the Principal did. “Everything all right?”

“I am Val, as in Val. I am Val, as in Val. Fine... fine.”

She certainly didn’t seem it, but Andrea remained silent. She was close to her limit of tolerance. She was certainly going to write something that night. Something the Principal didn’t expect.

“Now, you'll note the school spirit evidenced by the blue and yellow outfits. Where does that school spirit come from, you say? In my years as an educator...”

Li was interrupted by the publisher saying her mantra again, louder than before.

“Can I get you some water?” she asked.

“Go ahead, I’m fine,” Val responded, although her voice was still shaking.

“In my years as an educator, I...” Angela began before Val said…

“I'll just be a sec. I need to make a phone call,” before dashing out of the office.

“It's going very well, wouldn't you say?” Angela asked, trying to salvage the situation.

“Definitely not!” Andrea grumbled. “She has been talking about herself and her magazine all day! She won’t listen to me. Nor did she to my family last night.”

“Well, that happens,” the principal dissembled. “She is a little high strung…”

“What do you mean she wants to have your baby?!” Val exclaimed.

“As I was saying… Andrea, the creative temperament can be a roller…” Angela said before being interrupted again.

“You don't know how it happened? How do you think it happened, you ungrateful teen heartthrob cheese ball? A pitcherful of fuzzy navels and sunset on your freaking deck in Malibu! The same way it happened with me!”

“You were saying?” Andrea asked.

“Yes, I, uh…”

“You used me to get into Val magazine! I made you, and I can unmake you! You are neither hot nor a hunk, you soon-to-be has-been!”

“That should be it,” Andrea said.

But Angela had had enough. “She should have had her phone off!”

Andrea entered the faculty office, where she saw that Val was close to a meltdown.

“I’m Val as in Val. I’m Val as in Val. I’m Val as in Val. I’m Val as in Val. I’m Val as…”

“Val?” she said.

Val jumped. “Drey?” she asked after a few seconds. “I’m fine,” she said with a tone of annoyance. But she started the mantra again, but quieter.

“What was the purpose of today?” Andrea asked her voice low.

“What do you mean?” Val asked. “It was for, for us to spend time together.”

“No!” Andrea said. “I have been hearing you talk about yourself not only all day, but also last night You ignored my mother. You ignored Jodie’s question about having a multi-ethnic point of view. You let Sandi Griffin walk over you, just because you perceive her to be popular! And now you take a personal call in the middle of a conversation with the Principal!”

“It could have been important! And it was!” Val objected, fighting back tears. “And who are you, Andrea Hecuba-Croft? You’re just an unpopular emo girl who’s writing happened to pique the interest of one of my staff.”

“Emo! I’m not emo! I’m Goth! But I’m more than that. Who are you, Val? Other than the editor of your eponymous magazine.”

“Yes! I am Val,” Val said weakly. But then she raised her voice. “AS IN VAL! People listen to me! Val’s readership numbers have tripled in the past year!”

“But what does Val talk about other than frivolous and ephemeral styles, which as far as I can tell are changed on a whim?”

“You just don’t UNDERSTAND.”

“I Understand a lot,” Andrea fired back. “You think you’re all that? I think you’re trying to live vicariously through your fans. Whatever happened in your past, you’re still trying to get past it. Either that, or you’re trying to drag others down with you.”

“You! You!” Val stuttered. “You know what! I’ll go back to New York and write something that will make you regret what you just said.”

“You think I care what Val magazine says?” Andrea asked rhetorically. “And a slander suit would be a waste of your time.” With that off her chest she stalked out of the room and let the Principal, who had heard everything, in.

“I will back everything Ms. Hecuba-Thorne said,” Li said whilst brandishing a microcassette, which she had just ejected from the recorder.

“You wouldn’t?” Val asked.

“I would. Now, I want a favorable impression of this school, or I will release it to the media. Do I make myself clear.”

“I’m Val as in Val. I’m Val as in Val. I’m Val as in Val. I’m Val as…”

“Do I make myself clear?” Angela said as she passed the publisher a glass of water.

Val breathed deeply and wiped some tears away. “Crystal!”

“Excellent.”

Val then smiled a humorless smile. “The School itself yes. But Andrea herself, not so much.”

“As long as she remains anonymous!”

“Of course.”

“Done! Now please leave school property immediately!”

The Youngest Barksdale - Part 4

Daria arrived at Lawndale High the second time to find Scarlett waiting for her. “Scarlett?”

“I thought I’d meet you out here,” Scarlett responded.

“Sure,” Daria said with a smile.

“Today will be good.”

“Huh?”

“Wait and see,” Scarlett responded.

‘Something’s certainly happening,’ Daria thought.

They entered the school and saw that most of the students were wearing the school colors, yellow and blue. “So, what’s happening?” Daria asked.

“Someone won a contest that they were entered into by Mr. O’Neill,” Scarlett answered.

“I see,” Daria said. “But that’s not all, is it?”

“No. They were entered into the contest without consent, and now they have to play host to a vapid magazine editor visiting the school,” Scarlett explained. She looked around. “Here they come now.”

Daria saw the magazine editor immediately. She was wearing clothing entirely inappropriate for her age and had dyed blonde hair. That was in contrast to the student she was accompanying, who was wearing dark clothing and Eye of Horus makeup and looked quite annoyed.

The student ran up to Scarlett and Daria, the magazine editor powerwalking behind. “Scarlett!” she said.

“Andrea,” Scarlett said. “This is Daria, she started here yesterday.”

“Hi, Daria, I saw you in class, but I was preparing for Val’s visit,” she said in apology as she indicated the magazine editor who had caught up with them.

“Hey, Drey, introduce me to your friends, would you,” the magazine editor, Val, requested.

“This is Scarlett, and that’s Daria.”

Val put out her hand to take Scarlett’s. “Hi! I’m Val! As in Val!”

‘Great! She named the magazine after herself,’ Daria thought. “Hi.”

“Are you Drey’s friend?” Val asked.

“No. I just started here yesterday,” Daria answered.

“I see,” Val responded. “Do you like it so far?”

“It seems rather like a cookie-cutter suburban town, typical of this region of America.”

“I see,” Val said. She turned to Scarlett. “You’re Drey’s friend, right?”

“Yes,” Scarlett answered.

“Jiggy!” Val exclaimed.

Andrea groaned at that.

“So, I think our strategy should be we basically just hang, and I'll come up with some ear candy, and you'll write about your day with me, Val, and I'll write about Val's day with you, and we'll really get at the hidden heart of high school. Are you with?”

“Certainly!” Andrea said in a sarcastic tone.

“Question, why are most people wearing blue and yellow?” Val asked.

“It’s school colors day,” Andrea said. “A random event brought up by the Principal to inspire school spirit. It definitely doesn’t have anything to do with your visit.”

“You should have told me! I want to fit in while I'm here,” Val exclaimed as she took out her phone.

“Just one difference between us!” Andrea murmured.

“George, I'm going to need a wardrobe change. Pull something yellow and blue and jiggy. I don't know -- call a courier or ask the concierge.” She then hung up. “I hope no one acts differently around me, but you'll let me know, right, Andrea?”

Andrea sighed.

Daria saw Brittany approaching, dragging a boy behind her. Unlike the day before, she wasn’t dressed in blue and yellow.

“Oh no!” Andrea said quietly, with an annoyed expression on her face.

‘Huh?’’ Daria wondered. There was something about Andrea’s expression.

“Oh! There’s Andrea. Let’s say hi to our buddy Andrea!”

“Andrea? Our buddy?” the boyfriend asked with confusion.

“Kevin, we love Andrea,” Brittany responded with slight sarcasm. “Hi, you! Andrea. It’s me, your friend, Brittany.”

“Really, Brittany?” Andrea asked with an edge in her voice.

‘There’s something there,’ Daria thought.

“Um… Hi,” Brittany said to Val.

“Only Brittany is acting differently,” Andrea groused, more to herself and Scarlett, than to Val.

“How come you aren’t wearing yellow and blue?” Scarlett asked Brittany.

“It's School Colors Day, Scarlett!” Brittany responded.

“Yeah. We're not colorful enough for you?” the cheerleader’s boyfriend, Kevin, responded.

‘I get the feeling that they’re not the brightest,’ Daria thought.

“So, Andrea. You’re going to introduce your visitor?” Brittany asked.

“Um, she’s an acquaintance…” Andrea said, uncertainly.

“Oh, Andrea, we might as well give it up. I'm just too recognizable. Okay, it's me, Val. Yes, the Val, as in Val.

“You're kidding! I love Val!” Brittany exclaimed.

‘Of course!’ Daria thought.

“You know each other?” Kevin asked in confusion.

“How about doing a cheer for America's coolest young women, my readers?” Val asked.

“Um, okay.” Brittany said. “Give me a "V"! Give me an "A"! Give me an "L"... gosh, that's short”

“Maybe I should write about cheerleading as the new yoga. Last year I did yoga as the new cheerleading, but I'm ready for a different spin. Pretty good for a 28-year-old, huh?”

Daria knew she was lying. “Twenty-eight?” she looked at Andrea and could tell she was about to ask the same thing. Brittany and Scarlett looked slightly shocked too. ‘More like forty-eight.’

“I know, I know. People still think I'm, like, 16. When Drew and I go out clubbing I'm always the one who gets carded.”

‘More like ‘Drew’ would be the one who gets carded,’ Daria thought.

“Are these clubs very dark?” Andrea asked.

“Oh, it's so cool to be back in school!”

The Homeroom bell then rang.

Star Trek Into Darkness rating

Rewatch. The previous rating is still valid. 8/10.

Thor Love and Thunder delayed review

 82.      Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor is on a journey of self-discovery. One which the Guardians of the Galaxy are tired of. So, they go their separate ways. This introductory portion was well done. It leads well into Thor’s arrival at New Asgard. Thor’s surprise at Jane wielding Mjolnir was well done as was the battle against Gor’s forces in the town. With the revelation of Gor’s agenda, Thor, Jane and Valkerie go to find help. The trip to Omnipotence City was well done, but just raises questions about the cosmology of the universe. (Certainly, setting things up for the future.)

Eternity also raises questions. (Mainly about whether Thanos would have sought it rather than going after the Infinity Stones.) Overall, the film was good, but not as good as it could have been. 7.95/10.

The Engineer and the Time Lady - Rescuing Hernandez

 19. Rescuing Hernandez

“We're now close to the MI6 Building,” Hawkins reported as they passed the Vauxhall Bridge.

“Beginning scan,” T'Sal reported.

The scan took a while.

“She's there,” T'Sal said.

“So, can we get a lock?” Rostova asked.

“No,” T'Sal said. “I can't localise it. We'll have to go in ourselves and free her.”

“Great!” Rostova complained. “At least it should be easier than during the War.”

“Remember that this is during the Cold War. It's not going to be a cakewalk,” Hawkins said.

“I know that,” Rostova said, putting on a bad British accent.

“Orders?” Hawkins asked.

“Pull up alongside the Embankment,” T'Sal ordered.

“We'll be there in a few moments,” Hawkins said.

As soon as the Harris came alongside the Embankment, T'Sal and Rostova emerged from the top hatch. “The Building is approximately half a kilometer to the northeast,” T'Sal said.

“That isn't too far,” Rostova said.

“But it would be quite a distance to run once we have Hernandez,” T'Sal said as she slipped on a hat to hide her Vulcan ears.

“Quite true. But I managed to outrun Vorta and Cardassians in the War. I'll manage.”

“I'm aware of that. That is one reason I chose you for this mission.”

Rostova acknowledged that with a nod.

Once on the Embankment they set off towards the MI6 Building at a slow, but steady pace.

They approached the building 15 minutes later. T’Sal whipped out her tricorder. “Narrowing down… Somewhere in a basement level.”

“Meaning, that we may need to fight our way through. I'm ready.”

T'Sal nodded. “We'll dig our way through a low wall and procede from there.”

Meanwhile. Q was looking over the device 007 had given him. He was wondering whether to leave it until morning, or whether to start immediately. He placed it on the bench. He decided that it would be worth it to look inside first. He quickly found that it wasn't possible to open with bare hands. 'Of course not,' thought as he picked up a multitool.

T'Sal and Rostova were inside. “Three levels down, at least,” T'Sal said.

“That's great!” Rostova said as she looked around a corner. She couldn't see anyone. “But I don't see any stairs downwards. We may need to blast holes in the floor.”

“Not a good idea,” T'Sal said. “We might compromise the structure.”

“As a last resort though.”

“Only as that.”

Q managed to open the device. The insides of the device weren't what he expected. The circuitry was rather small, and he saw what looked like a piece of glass taking up it's center. 'Maybe the case itself is the antenna,' he considered. He grabbed a camera and took a photo of the internals. 'The glass is connected to the circuitry...'

T'Sal and Rostova found a stairwell. “One would think it would be guarded,” the latter said.

“Undoubtedly she is being guarded,” T'Sal responded.

“Of course,” Rostova said.

They did find agents on the stairwell, but they were able to pass themselves off as fellow agents.

'That won't last long...' T'Sal thought.

Back on the Baffin, Emmerson asked for a status report. “The Harris is still up near the Vauxhall Bridge,” Lieutenant Lillia Daniels reported.

“Understood,” Emmerson said. He sighed. “I'll be my ready room.”

“We're on the right level,” T'Sal said. “40 meters to the east.”

Rostova nodded.

Daniela had been placed in a cell somewhere in the building. The blindfold had been removed, but the lighting was dim. Time passed slowly. She was falling asleep when suddenly she heard phaser fire outside the cell. She jumped up off the bench as the guards were nerve pinched into unconciousness by T'Sal. “Finally!” she breathed.

“Stand back!” Rostova said. She used her phaser to melt the lock and swung the door open.

“We have to go now,” T'Sal said. “I'm certain we've raised the entire building.”

“Of course,” Daniela said as she emerged from the cell. “But Agent Bond took my commbadge. The quartermaster is certain to have it by now.”

“I have planned for that,” T'Sal said as she took out her tricorder. “Scanning for it now.”

“Then we have to get out of the building again,” Rostova said.

“A storm is interfering with the transporters,” T'Sal said as a clap of thunder sounded outside. “But it is providing cover.”

“One thing after another...” Hernandez murmured.

“Intruders?” Bond asked the other agent.

“Yes. They are certain to be going after the prisoner.”

Bond nodded. He would recapture her, or there would be hell to pay.

Rostova tossed Hernandez a phaser as they walked up some stairs. “Another two floors,” T'Sal said.

Hernandez nodded.

They entered the room and saw a man at a workbench. Rostova was certain he was dissecting the commbadge. Would she speak and implicate the KGB in this operation? She didn't know whether that would inflame the tensions between Britain and the Soviet Union or not. She had thought on it, and T'Sal had said that the decision was hers. In a flash she made that decision. “Hands up!” she said playing up her accent.

The man turned, and grabbed a pen nearby. “I'm not as helpless as you think I am,” he said. “You're in my lab. My home turf. You don't know what is innocuous, and what isn't.”

“That's true,” T'Sal said, immitating Rostova's accent. “But were not leaving without the device you were given earlier this evening.”

“I'm not going to give it to you,” the quartermaster said.. The quartermaster clicked the end of the pen twice and threw it down. That produced a cloud of smoke. They then immediately fired their phasers, which had been set on stun and a wide beam. All three of them then walked over.

“Great!” Hernandez said. “He's taken it apart.”

“I see that,” T'Sal said. “He may have notes already.”

“Can't exactly reverse engineer without the original, right?” Rostova asked.

“Probably not, but it's still contamination,” T'Sal said.

“We should go,” Hernandez said.

T'Sal could tell that she was anxious to get away. “Let's go,” she decided. They grabbed the components of the commbadge and some of the gadgets and made themselves scarce.

“Bond!” Hernandez said when she saw him in the distance.

“Got it!” Rostova said. She fired her phaser on stun but missed. “Great!” she said as a bullet from the PKK whizzed by. “We have to go a different way.”

“T'Sal to Harris, can you get a lock?”

Not yet. The storm is still interfering,” Hawkins said.

“Give us another five minutes, then fly at a low altitude towards the building.”

Acknowledged.”

More agents cornered them three minutes later, but they ran up some stairs nearby.

“Five minutes,” Hawkins murmured, as he launched the Harris out of the river.

A door opened and Bond emerged from it. “You can't escape,” he said

“I beg to differ,” T'Sal said as she put herself in a stance.

The two sparred briefly before T'Sal was able to put in a nerve pinch. They were then beamed aboard the Harris.

“Orders?” Hawkins asked.

“Back to Baffin the way we came,” T'Sal ordered.

“Acknowledged.”

“We're back in the river,” Hawkins said.

“Keep going,” T'Sal said.

They arrived back at Baffin 20 minutes later.

“The Harris has docked,” Lu reported.

“Back behind the Moon,” Emerson, ordered. “Steady as she goes.”

“Aye, sir,” Andersen said as she input the commands for Baffin to take off.

The storm was still an issue, but the ship took off and left the atmosphere without trouble.

They were back behind the Moon a minute later.

Excerpt from: The Heroic Seniors

“House? More like a Base!” Ron said.

“Base?” Senior asked. “Oh, I do not like the sound of that. It’s too… bland.”

“This place screams ‘base’. It’s on a private island that isn’t on any map.”

Excerpt from: The Youngest Barksdale

That was in contrast to student she was accompanying, who was wearing dark clothing and Eye of Horus makeup. She looked quite annoyed.

“Hi.”

“Are you Drey’s friend?”

Excerpt from: Adventures of Asteroid Station Delroy

‘I wouldn’t be so if the station is better.’

“The arboretum,” Davies said.

Andromeda walked in and saw that it did look better than those on the other two stations, having a wider variety of species. She smiled and danced around several of the trees before coming back up to Davies. She enjoyed the confused look on her face.

“What?” Davies asked.

“I like dancing,” Andromeda said simply.

“Right. We shall continue then.”

“Sure.”

Excerpt from: An Aquatic Second Contact

“They’re hailing,” Shax said.

“On Screen!” the captain ordered.

This is Captain Ma’ah of the Klingon Ship Che’Ta, to the Federation Starship in this system. I request permission to come alongside.”

“This is Captain Carol Freeman, of the USS Cerritos, Permission granted.”

Acknowledged, Che’Ta out.”

“Something’s certainly happening,” Commander Jack Ransom commented.

“I agree.” Freeman said.

“I have found the station, Captain,” Shax said.

“Good,” the Captain said. “Ensign Boimler! Prepare for docking.”

“Aye, Captain,” Ensign Bradward Boimler said.

IKS Che’Ta

Captain Ma’ah brought up the information on the planet on his PADD. It was certainly interesting that there was an almost entirely aquatic civilisation.

“The Cerritos has docked,” his first officer reported.

“Request docking clearance at the same station.”

“Yes, Captain.”

USS Cerritos

“The Che’ta has also docked,” Ensign Barnes reported.

“Inform Captain Ma’ah that I’ll meet him on the station.”

Excerpt from: The Big Freeze and the Arcade

“This is good,” she said.

“Elsa!” It was Anna.

‘Conceal, not feel!’ Elsa thought as heart beat faster at the sound of her sister’s voice. “Anna.”

“Everything is nearly ready,” she said.

“I can see that,” Elsa responded. ‘Uh oh!’ She saw some reporters approaching.

Anna saw Elsa go a little (more) pale. “Elsa?”

“Princess Elsa!” one of the reporters called out.

“Yes?” Elsa asked quietly.

“How do you feel about the Coronation?”

“Um, no comment,” Elsa said coldly, before dashing off.

“Princess Anna.”

“I’m excited, that the Palace is coming alive again, so to speak. The regency has been, distant, from the people of Arendelle. Queen Elsa will be more active,” she said. At least, that was what she hoped.

“Thanks, Princess Anna.”

Excerpt from: The Christmas Case

“You have found the right place,” Haru answered.

“It’s smaller than I expected,” the newcomer said.

“It’s not the size of the building that counts,” the Baron responded.

“Of course not,” the newcomer said.

“I am Baron Humbert von Grikkengen and that’s Haru.”

“I’m Tadano, Tadano Keiko.”

“Join us for tea,” the Baron said. “And fill us in.”

“This is good tea,” Keiko said after a sip.

“It’s my special blend,” the Baron explained. “It’s a little different each time.”

“Really?” Keiko asked.

“Yes,” the Baron answered. “But why are you here?”

“It’s silly really.”

Excerpt from: Invitation Trouble

“Sorry.”

“Everyone gets it wrong,” Jamie said.

“I’ll try to get it right,” Quinn said. She wanted to say more, that she knew what it was like to be referred to by the wrong name. ‘No, not yet,’ she thought.

Daria left Quinn and her posse behind. She was happy for Quinn, but did notice her response to Jamie. ‘Sorry sis.’

Between classes, Quinn overheard talk of a party.

“You're on the team, dudes. When a cheerleader has a party, all the football players are automatically invited,” Kevin Thompson said.

“It's on page six of the play book,” Mack Mackenzie added sarcastically.

Kevin turned to Quinn as she came up. “Hey, Quinn, what about you?”

She wasn’t sure. “Can I?”

“Sure!”

Quinn then saw that Jamie and his friends were there.

“Will you go out with me?” Jamie asked.

“Will you go out with me?” Joey asked right after him.

Excerpt from: Down the Wormhole

The Dragon Riders discover the Portal almost immediately. They decide to keep it a secret (although they do inform Stoick). Dragons start migrating through the portal. Hiccup and the Riders have to deal with Viggo Grimborn and the traitorous Johann, before preliminary forays through the portal are performed.

With the Riders return to Berk and their fight against Drago Bludvist, the portal is forgotten, but dragons continue to migrate through.

However, when the threat of Grimmel the Grisly arises, Hiccup decides to take the Berkians through the portal instead of leading them in search of the Hidden World.

With this misdirect, Grimmel and the warlords head off to the west, while the Berkians head off north-east to the Outpost Island.

It takes time for Grimmel to realise his mistake, having used the island that would otherwise have been New Berk as a base, but not discovering the Hidden World himself.

The Berkians establish New Berk on the other side of the portal, with the portal itself encased in a inside out fortress.

Grimmel scours the Archipelago for where the Berkians went before discovering the Outpost Island (where a few Berkians had been keeping watch in the former Dragons Edge). He attacks,  but the defences on the other side of the portal hold. A week after Grimmel’s attacks commence, the portal collapses.

The Berkians and their dragons make the most of it in the new world. Hiccup and Astrid are married and Zephr and Nuffink are born. (Not the only ones, and the Nightlights are also hatched).

The portal opens in the Westfarthing in 1430 SR. The Shire had mostly recovered by the Scouring by this time, and the population pressures that would lead to the addition of the Westmarch are already making themselves known. Several settlements are established (with about 3000 Hobbits) before the portal collapses in 1435 SR.

One Took (one of Peregrin’s cousins) is present on the other side when the portal collapses, and reluctantly accepts the position of Thain of the Newfarthing.

The Portal opens shortly after the Battle of the Eureka Stockade. The colonial authorities report the find to London. In the following five years, colonisation of the true terra nullius beyond the portal would proceed.

Excerpt from: Thirteen and Sixteenth

The Doctor entered the console room, to find Xavier already there. “The TARDIS says that we’re about to land,” Xavier said.

“That’s great!” the Doctor said. They had been in the vortex for a while. She checked the screen. “Somewhere on Earth, in the early 21st Century.”

“Boring,” Xavier commented.

“True, but Earth seems to be the centre of everything.”

The TARDIS then landed.

“Tokyo, 2018?” Xavier asked.

“Interesting, I have been here before,” the Doctor commented with a twirl of a pigtail.

“Been here, as in at this time?” Xavier asked.

“Yes,” the Doctor answered.

“The settlers were from all over Earth,” the Doctor explained.

“That’s good,” Tegan considered.

“It would defend on the circumstances, wouldn’t it?” Turlough asked.

“Of course,” the Doctor said. “But look around. The people look diverse.”

“We’ll have to look for her,” Ian said.

“Yes.”

They hadn’t gone far when they found some clues. “Some of the equipment she was carrying,” Ian considered.

“But she wouldn’t just leave it here!” Barbara said.

“We’re not alone here,” Ian realised. “And now we have to rescue her.”

The Doctor came to. She realised that she was being held captive.

Excerpt from: Sandi’s Struggle

First class was Science, where Ms. Barch had taken the opportunity provided by Sandi’s condition to further her misandrist agenda. She pointed to the blackboard where she had drawn a diagram of the human respiratory system. “Sandi, I’d like you to show me where the Larynx is,” she said.

Sandi glared at the teacher. ‘Quinn would be much better choice,’ she thought. She went up anyway and pointed to a spot above where the passages from the lungs connected.

“Very good, Sandi. That is the where the sounds of our voice are usually produced. That is where you have an infection and are inflamed.”

Sandi frowned.

“I’m making a point here,” the teacher said.

Sandi knew what point the teacher was making, and many of the boys in the class groaned.

“I heard that!” Barch said. “I wish it were one of you, instead of Sandi up here. In fact, I wish that all males were mute!”

Sandi tapped the board, where she had pointed out the Larynx earlier.

“What’s that?” Barch asked.

Sandi grabbed the chalk and wrote: How does voice box work?

“I was getting to that,” the teacher said. “You can go to your desk now.”

Sandi breathed a sigh of relief.

“You did well up there, Sandi,” Quinn said.

‘Really?’ Sandi wondered. How would Quinn do if she didn’t have a voice? She realised that she wouldn’t wish it on her. She shrugged.

Excerpt from: Sixteenth Doctor Adventures

“No!” she cried.

“Doctor!” Xavier cried out as several of the drones fired nets onto him.

“I will rescue you!” the Doctor shouted as they were pushed further apart. She turned away, her eyes burning with annoyance and stalked towards her destination.

She slammed the door open. “I have read your plan,” she stated to the nondescript person behind the desk. “I know how to interfere with it. Holding Xavier hostage won’t dissuade me!”

“Ah, Doctor. Or, yet another version thereof.”

“I may have recently regenerated, but I have my full faculties, I assure you.”

“I didn’t doubt that.”

“Now, why have you put your plan in motion?”

“I’m not the one who put it into motion. I’m only in charge of the aspects directed from this building.”

“Of course. But I am asking you to reconsider,” the Doctor said.

“No.”

“I should warn you. I have notified UNIT. A detachment should arrive shortly. I would rather have this resolved peacefully.”
