Low on power, the drone approached its base station near
the Macquarie River.
Liliana Ferguson watched it land on the platform and then
took the secondary storage. She touched it to her left nape port. The data
could be transferred wirelessly of course, but that usually took up to six
times longer. Nearly 30 seconds, instead of nearly five. The general overlay of
Dubbo then appeared in her optical implants. The information copied she placed
the secondary storage back in the drone.
She focused her attention on the overlay as she headed
back to her vehicle. There was a lot of information to sort through but she had
expected that. She had to start somewhere. Church Street, between Victoria Park
and the Showground.

“The shuttle is approaching the beam down site,” Andersen
said.
“As soon as the away team is aboard the shuttle, put a
tractor beam on it,” Emmerson reported.
“Aye sir.”
“Less than 50 seconds until anomalous conditions...”
Albert murmured as he battled strong winds as the Montreal approached
the beam down site.
“This is concerning...” Lu said.
“What is?” Emmerson asked.
“The anomaly is growing, changing... We might not make it
out...”
“What is it doing?”
“Expanding, we're under it now...”
