Voyager continued through the transwarp conduit. But suddenly, Cubes appeared ahead.

 

 

In the mindspace, Kes could see the armada approaching. “I still have tricks up my sleeve,” she said to the Queen.

Excerpt from: Mysteries of Lawndale 03: Night of the Coffee House

Quinn was about to leave when she turned and asked. “Are you usually here this late?”

 

“Yes, the Faculty office is an environment far more conducive to work than my apartment.”

 

Not knowing what to say to that, Quinn simply said, “See you tomorrow then,” then left.

 

 

Daria finished going through the yearbook and looked at Jane’s sketches again. She had only narrowed down the suspects a little. ‘I’ll have to go through the yearbook again, she decided.

 

“Is that all the video?” Jane asked.

 

“Yes. They only have the two cameras facing in that direction,” Daria answered.

 

“There’s not much more I can do for now,” Jane said. “Other than refinement, of course. But that wouldn’t help with identification. Besides, wouldn’t it be nearly dinner?”

 

“There were many times when I missed dinner,” Daria said. “But I will be back early tomorrow.”

 

“But not too early. I’m not an early riser!”

 

 

Daria and Quinn met as they approached their house from opposite directions. “Hey, Daria.”

 

“How was today, Quinn?”

 

“Mr. DeMartino has given me a book on Lawndale’s history. It seems that there are tensions under the surface.”

 

“Every place does, Quinn,” Daria said as she lead the way to the front door.

 

 

“You’re here just in time,” Helen said to her daughters as they entered the kitchen. “Dinner is ready.”

 

“You know these things can go into the evenings,” Daria said.

 

“But not often. You can’t solve every crime you come across, Daria.” Her older daughter may have been a successful detective in Highland, but she there were times when she did fail.

 

“Of course not!” Daria said with slight annoyance as she sat at the table. “But I was getting somewhere… I just need to think about it more.”

 

“How was your day, Quinn?”
