Mysteries of Lawndale: Esteem of the Investigator
The new girl, Quinn Morgendorffer, was playing against a player from Oakwood, Lawndale’s biggest rival. What was impressive was that Quinn was winning. So far it was 6-3, 5-2 at 40-30. The Lawndale home crowd was holding their breath as Quinn prepared to serve.

She served...

Quinn's Code: Morgendorffers in the Woods
Each day, each guild member dropped off to play other games, or in a few cases stopped gaming altogether.
Finally Kelly was on her own, and looking for others to join the delapidated guild. However the final thing was so horrifying that she could not sleep either that night, or the next.

Quinn's Tale ends
...And so she never played Ultima Online again!”

I don't get it. If it's all in a computer, how can it be scary? Other than how computers are scary normally, of course?” Jake asked.

It's like a horror movie, only more interactive,” Daria said.

Kelly was really into that game...” Quinn said.

Ok, Daria, your turn,” Helen said.

Daria, Quinn, get up. I need you. Your father's in a sickening mood.”

Are they decent, Helen?”

Yes, Jake.”

Helen backed out and Jake put his head and a branch of berries into the tent. “Up and at 'em, ladies! Time to join the forest morning, already in progress. Breakfast is on Mother Nature. Yum! Meet you around the fire in five minutes!” He went.

Helen came back. “Please, girls. I'm afraid I may hurt him.”

Later...
Was that breakfast great, kiddo?” Jake asked.
Actually, uh, I'm not a real berry person, Dad. I sort of didn't eat mine. I'm waiting for lunch,” Daria said.

Oh, well, you're gonna love my roasted acorns a la Jake!” He paused. “Can you believe the whole continent used to look like this?”

It makes me yearn for the past.”

They came to a fork in the trail. One side has a sign saying DANGER! TRAIL WASHED OUT . “Look at that, Daria: a fork in the trail. If you go one way, you can't go the other.”

This is going to depress me, isn't it?”

This way over here leads to an entry-level job. A little bit of money in your pocket. Soon, you're wearing a suit and tie every day like all the other faceless saps, living in a boring little house in a bland little town, and doing so well you're in debt up to your disappearing hair! That's where that trail leads, Daria.”

I guess that other trail is the one that leads to personal and spiritual satisfaction. That's why they don't want you to take it.”

Dammit, Daria! You're brilliant!” Jake said, as he climbed over the sign. He walked down the closed trail...

Wait! It was a joke!”

Helen and Quinn were behind the other two.
I wish your father would stay where we can see him.”

What's Dad so worked up about, anyway?”

Oh, Quinn. It's not easy being an adult.”

Is he having a mid life crisis?”

That is one way of saying it.Iit's hard for you to understand. You're like a fresh new bud, just on the threshold of opening.”

Ewww! Mom! You're not going to talk about puberty, are you?”

Quinn, everywhere you look you see doors opening. Everywhere your father looks, he sees doors closing. A long corridor of doors slamming shut, and at the very end, there is one open door he must someday enter... and never may he return. I can't go on. Leave me here.”

Mom?” Quinn was worried. Helen's eyes were dilated. “Oh no! I knew that those berries were bad!”

Go on, Quinn. You're so young, so beautiful. You should lead the tribe into the new century.”

Mom! I'm staying with you!”

Now go tell Gray Fox I have given my blessing.” Helen passed out.

This is not good! Just as well I didn't eat the berries!” Quinn decided for some drastic action. “Daria!”

Dad, I don't think this is a good idea,” Daria said as they continued down the washed out trail.

It's not cautious, is it, Daria? It's not the sort of thing a responsible family man would do.”

Are you feeling okay? You look kind of pale.”

Maybe you think we should go be to camp, huh? You go back to camp, Daria! I'm going to see what... who is down this trail. You hear that, old man? I don't care what happens to me Daria! I'm past feeling pain.” He ran into a tree. “Ow! Dammit!”

They then heard Quinn calling.

Come on, Dad. Quinn needs us.”

Quinn? What's wrong with Mom?”

She ate those berries! She was hallucinating and now she's unconscious. I can't rouse her!”

This is serious!” Daria agreed.

Helen?”

Helen then stirred. “Wha...? Oh! Jake, honey, you had us a little worried.”

You had us worried, Mom,” Quinn said.

No, honey, the tide! I was saying we ought to set sail while the tide's still high.”

Oh no!” Quinn said. “What ever was wrong with her Mom before, was still in her system.

Sure! If we try to sail at low tide and ran aground, we'd be sitting ducks for Captain Cutless' men,” Jake said. His eyes were just as dialated as those of his wife... “I don't know about you, but I don't want to be skinned alive and thrown to the sharks, right girls? Come on, let's go gather some provisions!”

What are we to do? We have no means of contacting the outside world!” Quinn said. She collapsed to her knees, clasped her hands to her chest, and looked up with a pleading expression. “Whatever, or whoever is there. Please help!”

Quinn?” However before Daria could interupt Quinn's prayer she could hear Helen's dialtone coming from somewhere. “Rely on Mother's hypocrisy to see us through this crisis.” She found the phone and answered it.

Helen, do you have a few minutes to go over these depositions? ” It was her boss, Eric Schector.

She'll have to call you back.” She dialed 911.

Thank goodness!” Quinn said as she got up.

Later, after a helicopter rescue and Helen and Jake having their stomachs pumped the Morgendorffers were home again.

On a whim, Daria called Jane. “Yol”
What are you doing home?”

What are you? ”

My parents went crazy from eating psychotropic berries, so we were evacuated from the woods and they had their stomachs pumped.”

Wow, that's cool. My family was already crazy without any berries, so Trent and I evacuated ourselves to the airport in my aunt's rental car and flew the hell out of there. ”

Oh. Well, anything else new?”

Nah. You? ”

Nah.”

Shortly afterwards, Quinn called Cindy. “Hi, Quinn. How was the trip?”

Terrible! My parents ate these weird berries, and they ended up having their stomach's pumped!”

That's not good. Who's stupid enough to just eat any berries that they find ?”

My Dad, it seems,” Quinn answered.

I hope he learned his lesson .”

I hope so, I don't want to lose him. And it cost sixteen thousand dollars for the helicopter ride!”

That's exorbitant! ”

I know!”

Quinn's Code 10: Blue Screen of Sherman

Lawndale
Helen and Jake Morgendorffer were admiring their daughter, Quinn's, school photos.
Why, Quinn, you look darling!” Helen said.

You look so happy, sweetie!” Jake added.

I felt happy. I always feel happy on picture day. Do you think that 'Wilds of California' was a good background? Because I almost went with 'Silicon Valley at Sunset',” Quinn said, referring to a picture of herself posing in front of a rainforest waterfall.

I think it was a fine choice,” What did you pick, Daria?”

Sea Tainted by Morris J. Berman?” Her other daughter, Daria, said.

Come on, Daria, where's your school picture?” Helen asked. Daria handed over her picture, showing her against a plain black background.

Wow, that's sharp focus,” Jake said.

Daria, just once, why can't you smile when somebody takes your picture?”

I don't like to smile unless I have a reason.”

Daria, people judge you by your expression.”

Yes, and I believe there is something wrong intrinsically wrong with that system, and have dedicated myself to changing it.”

Hey, did you see these?” Quinn asked, holding some wallet-sized photos.

Lawndale High
This is it, Mack Daddy! The week of weeks,” Kevin Thompson said.

Too much hero worship isn't healthy, you know. And don't call me that!” Michael 'Mack' McKenzie said.

But the man is coming! The man! Tommy Sherman brought it home, bro! The State Championship. And now he's coming back to Lawndale!”

I know all about it. Jodie's giving the speech about the Goal Post, remember?”

Oh, yeah! Does she need any help with ideas for that? Like from a Quarterback's point of view?”

Gee, I'll ask her, when there aren't any sharp objects around.”

Cool!”
Daria sat near the library, near her friends Jane Lane and Jennifer Burns. “What is the big deal about the football guy anyway?”

He was the Quarterback three years ago when the school won the state championship,” Jennifer explained.

Trent knew him,” Jane added, referring to her brother.

Well, why name the goal posts after him? Why not the whole stadium?”

Goal post,” Jane corrected.

Flashback (3 years earlier)
See, his trademark was, he always wanted to run the touchdown in himself...”

A game was in action. Indeed, Tommy Sherman was running the ball in, and waving to the crowd. Slam! He hit the goal post. Hard! Blood 'spurted' out of his nose...

He broke his nose twice. Then, in the playoffs a week before the state championship, he scored the winning touchdown, and hit the goal post so hard he cracked his helmet.”

End Flashback

He was unconscious for six days. Miraculously he woke up the night before the big game feeling great. The next day he led the team to victory.”

Stirring,” Daria commented.

Isn't it – so now the school's bought one of the new goal posts designed to break apart rather than split your skull.”

Why only one?” Daria asked.

Budget cuts, Li figured she'll get one at a time,” Jennifer answered. 'I think that is right,' she considered.

Of course.”

And they're naming it after good ol' Tommy Sherman,” Jane commented. She saw Jodie Landon approaching. “Here comes the lucky student council member who will do the honours.”

Jodie sat next to Jennifer. “Gimme a break,” she said to Jane. She turned to Daria. “I can't get past the introduction to the speech. Can I read it to you?”

Does that mean I don't have to listen to it later?”

'Good afternoon, students, faculty, and distinguished alumni of Lawndale High. As a representative of your Student Council...' Any ideas?”

'It is my privilege today to once again send the message that learning is no substitute for winning.'” Daria suggested.

"And that it's not how hard you study, it's how hard you play football," Jane added.

Doctor Who: Tamsin
I don’t know why there were so many bugs today,’ she thought, as she turned on the Radio.

BBC Radio Devon Local News.

Large swarms of insects have been reported throughout Exeter today. Locals are advised to avoid the swarms. Experts are at a loss to explain the behaviour.”

Interesting,” Tamsin said as she booted up her computer.

Doctor Who: A New Beginning: A Crashing Time
The TARDIS responded to the Doctor’s command. The screen filled with information.

So we go there?” Clara asked.

No! The place was a trap. One of my previous selves was there just after a regeneration, but so was the Master!”

The Master?” Clara asked. Even as she asked, some echo memories came back of a goateed man who had almost hypnotised her echo into doing his bidding. ‘I am the Master, and you will obey me!’ She shuddered.

You remember?” the Doctor asked.

Not a particularly good memory.” Clara looked at the screen again, and found something else of interest. “Zero Room?”

Yes, a Zero Room was re-installed on the TARDIS after the last one was ejected just prior to arrival at Castrovalva. We need to find it!” The Doctor collapsed. “Quickly.”

Zero Room. Locate the Zero Room, in relation to the Console Room!”

The screen then read Error: Manual Location Required.

What does that error mean?”

You have to find the Zero Room manually. It’s a simplistic environment isolated from the rest of the universe. It can’t be located by the Architectural Configuration System.”

Blimey, the Time Lords have to have things needlessly complex don’t they?” Clara asked.

Ah! Quick, the TARDIS may help!”

Right,” Clara said, as she took the Doctor into her arms.

It didn’t help that the TARDIS was shaking as Clara carried the Doctor further away from the Console Room. “What would it look like from outside?” she asked.

Large double doors, silvery. You will know it when you see it.”

Great!” Clara murmured.

Less than five minutes had passed before Clara found the Zero Room. She put the Doctor on the floor and pushed the doors wide. She immediately dragged him in. (It seemed that he was unconscious.)

She looked around. It was a large space with white roundled walls. The roundles were at least the size of the Console Room. She also felt a sense of peace. “Ok, Doctor, we’re here.”

The Doctor stirred. “Very good, Clara. Now return to the Console Room. The TARDIS is still crashing! Be sure to close the doors.”

Longest crash I ever heard of,” Clara said. “Right!” She bounded out of the Zero Room, closing the doors behind her.

By the time Clara returned to the Console Room, the Cloister Bell was ringing, and steam had permeated the room. “Are we crashing into Trenzalore’s star? Or any other star?” she asked in panic.

The screen said. Not a Star

A Gas Giant then?”

Not a Gas Giant

Mercury? Venus?”

Not Mercury or Venus

Right.” She called on her memories of the Gallifreyian echo. “Rematerialising now!”

Alarming noises sounded as the Time Rotor came to a standstill, and the usual landing noise seemed to have a screeching effect. “That doesn’t sound good!”

She approached the doors and clicked her fingers. The doors opened showing, water. Clara reached out and touched it. “Ow!” The water was cold. More than that, it had pressed hard upon her fingertip. “Right, we’re far underwater,” she guessed. She brought her finger to her mouth. The water was salty. “Sea water. We’re under an ocean?”

She closed the doors and went back to the Console. The Scanner confirmed her suspicions, they were deep under an ocean. It also indicated that the TARDIS was resting against a shipwreck. “Is it Trenzalore?”

Not Trenzalore

Earth?”

Not Earth.

Neither Trenzalore, nor Earth. Where are we?”

Metabelis III

TARDIS, Metabelis III Ocean
Metabelis III,” Clara considered. She didn’t know anything about that planet, other than that the Doctor had obtained some mysterious crystals from there at some point. “Information: Metabelis III.”

Metabelis III: Crystals allow for various mind powers. Warning! Depending on time period, there may be aggressive Giant Spiders. The Doctor’s third incarnation may be present. There are human colonists.
