Doctor Who: Eve of the Daleks review

 Eve of the Daleks

The New Years Day Special. Daleks yet again. And yet with a slightly different approach. Those gatling guns are interesting. But a story should be about more than the antagonists. It’s about the situation and how the characters deal with it. As such the Doctor’s speech about learning from one’s mistakes was a very good one. Each character has their own way of coping with the situation. It’s certainly an unexpected approach to a time loop situation. But not one I hadn’t seen before. (Last seen as part of the climax of Phineas and Ferb: Last Day of Summer.)

The concept of a storage facility as the setting is reminiscent of all the ‘Base Under Siege’ serials from Classic Who. (Although none of those were close to being a storage facility.) There was good set up with Jeff’s stuff, like the fireworks, and Sarah’s mother. But back to the characters. Sarah was realised very well, although her decision to go around the world with Nick seems very ill advised. Nick was quite creepy, what with keeping the stuff from flings in the storage unit in the hopes of giving it back. His character was well developed also.

Dan’s delaying tactic was done very well too. That was definitely a good moment. Yas and the Doctor, not sure what to make of that. Aside from Sarah and Nick going off together, the ending was quite well done. 8.5/10.
