The Kelsington
Conspiracy
Prologue: Hendricks is involved
Friday, 2nd November 2018
Dubidale, New Lancreshire, Australia
It
had been a long, exhausting, day for Corrine Hendricks when she
managed to get home at 5:30. While most of her students had been well
behaved, there were a couple in year 8 who seemed determined to make
it as difficult as possible for her to teach them. As much as she had
tried to keep up with the reports, there were still a few she needed
to complete. She parked the car in the garage and then went to the
mailbox.
She
had unlocked the front door when she heard a sound. She turned around
and saw another woman on her front lawn, close to the verandah. “Who
are you? Why are you here?” she asked.
“Corrine
Hendricks?” the other, slightly older, woman asked.
“That's
my name,” Corrine confirmed. “What is yours?” she asked with an
edge to her voice that she usually used with unruly students. She
kicked open the door behind her. She was very wary.
“Roberta
Thomas,” the other woman said. “You are making a mistake.”
“What
do you mean, a mistake?” Corrine asked. “I make a lot of
mistakes,” she added almost under her breath. Like everyone else
she knew, there were still things she struggled with.
Roberta
laughed, as if she agreed with Corrine. “Everyone makes small
mistakes,” she said in a lighthearted tone. She then returned to
tone she had been speaking with thus far. “But this is a big
mistake! Elias Stanton, he is not as he appears.”
Elias
Stanton, her boyfriend, was certainly reclusive, but she was certain
that he was as he appeared. “Say that again?” she asked, with
slight annoyance.
Roberta
sighed. “I know you're in a relationship with him, but you don't
know everything about his past..”
'Anyone
who hasseen my Netspace account would know that,' Corrine thought,
regarding Roberta's knowledge of their relationship. “He doesn't
know everything about my past, either,” she countered.
“Fine!”
Roberta said with gritted teeth. “Search for information about the
University of New Oxfordshire and Kelsington International. What
you'll find will surprise you.”
Corrine
knew that Elias had studied at the University of New Oxfordshire, but
she had no idea what Kelsington International had to do with it.
“Maybe,” she said.

“Kelsington could be viewing the University from space,”
Parminder whispered.
“Maybe, I'll keep under cover as much as possible,” Elias said.
“That probably won't be enough.”
“Still, I'll try,” Elias said
as he walked away.
“Wait!”
“Bye!”
While Elias exited the library,
Parminder went back down to the lower level. As he exited the library
Elias looked around the courtyard. The College was relatively close,
but not visible, being on the other side of the Madgewick Building,
which was barely visible to the south of the library. Besides there
wasn't much cover, between the library and the Madgewick building.
But there were multiple paths around the university. Elias looked in
the other direction. The Cafeciducca was relatively close.
Between the library and the Cafeciducca was the University Tavern,
below which was the UNOSA offices and the studio for the radio
station.
That was a safer path. He could
then walk down the portico alongside Dalton Hall, the University's
main Hall. The Madgewick building would then be rather close. He
could the dash along it's northern wall, and then pass the Chemistry
and Mathematics buildings to their east. 'That will work,' he
thought.
However, as he approached the
Cafeciducca, he saw the KI agent inside. 'That's not good,' he
thought. But there was another way around the Cafeciducca, but he
would have to go around the other side of Dalton Hall. That wasn't
much a of a problem, except that there weren't so much cover near the
Physics and Network Services buildings. 'I'll have to risk it,' he
thought.
“Why was Elias so insistent on
going back the normal way?” Parminder grumbled as she re-entered
the normal part of Mara Green College on the lower level of Hall
Three. She had gone further down beneath the library to access a
quicker way back to the college than the tunnel she had taken Elias
along. Still, she had to return to her room, to contact the
treasurers in Austin and Drummond to be sure that they would be
voting to protest against the Kelsington grant that night. Kelsington
had to be stopped!
Elias left the university's
network of covered walkways between the Network Services Building and
the Chemistry Buildings. He figured that it was worth the risk
despite what Parminder had said.
The KI agent was sipping her
coffee in the cafeciducca when there was an alert beep from her
mobile. She saw the e-message there. Elias Stanton located between
the Network Services and Chemistry Buildings. 'I have you now,'
she thought. She picked up the coffee and left the cafeciducca.
Even so, Elias was quick to re-enter the cover. He paused, and went
into the the closer of the two Chemistry buildings.
The KI agent approached the
Network Services Building, where she suspected Elias went into. 'It
seems he goes there fairly often,' she thought.

“Research?” Fiona asked.
“I'm sure that you have heard, that KI has research bases in nearly
all biomes around the planet.”
“Including the outback, and the Great Reef,” Fiona considered.
“But the knowledge gained is used for the benefit of KI's
shareholders!”

She never slept with them even when she was a child. As soon as her
hand curled around a pair she felt reassurred. She sat up and looked
at the sticks. They looked brand new. She wondered why she had fallen
asleep all dressed up. She didn't drink anymore. She wondered where
she was. She stood up and looked both ways along the hallway.
'There's a Trek convention in town? But Neil and Scott together
aren't smart enough to drag me down to some lame replica as a joke,'
she thought.
She knew where to stick those new drumsticks if that was true though.
She walked down the corridor wondering where the 'lameos' were who
were supposed run around babbling in Klingon...
As Sisko had continued to glare at Waller after the computer
announced the latest arrival, he sent Daria to meet her.
Daria had first grabbed Tomoko from the Mess Hall, before going to
meet the new arrival.
Kim rounded a corner and saw two schoolgirls coming towards her. She
saw that one of them was Japanese, wearing a sailor girl uniform. The
other was caucasian, with red hair a shade darker than hers and
glasses. The two were holding hands. The Japanese girl was happy,
with the other one seeming to be uncomfortable. She extended her
right hand. “Kim Pine. Where the **** are we anyway?” She then
stated her appreciation for the Caucasian girl's boots.
The Japanese girl grinned broadly and bowed before shaking Kim's
hand. “Oh, Kim, Pine-san. I am Tomoko Kuroki of Tokyo. And allow me
to introduce my friend: Commander Daria Morgendorffer, second in
Command of this ship,” she said in rather good French.
The other one scowled and added, also in French. “I'm Daria
Morgendorffer. And I'm not second in command of anything. The Captain
trusts me, is all.”
